After Rodrygo, Andrea Berta wants to sign another Real Madrid star at Arsenal this summer

Now that the January transfer window is closed, attention on the transfer front at Arsenal is on the summer.

Arsenal could sign Sandro Tonali in the summer after the deadline day transfer saga linked the Newcastle United midfielder with a move to N5.

The deal didn’t happen, leaving Andrea Berta with a clearer plan of what needs to be addressed in the summer in preparation for the 2026/27 season.

Arsenal’s attack needs some work, which makes links to players like Rodrygo unsurprising, but the Real Madrid winger isn’t the only player at the Bernabeu to turn heads at the Emirates.

Arsenal are keen on signing Arda Guler from Real Madrid

Arsenal were heavily linked with Rodrygo in the 2025 summer transfer window, but it was always the Brazilian’s plan to remain in Madrid.

Rodrygo stayed, but his future remains uncertain, which is the same situation that Arda Guler finds himself in.

Like the winger, Arsenal have shown transfer interest in Guler before, but have never acted on it; though, that could change.

Would you swap Arda Guler for Martin Odegaard?

Journalist James Olley was speaking about all things Arsenal transfers on the ESPN FC podcast, which is when Guler’s name was mentioned once again.

“I think Arda Guler at Real Madrid is another one that they are very keen on. And this is the kind of level that they’re looking at now.”

Olley’s update also mentioned Arsenal’s interest in Julian Alvarez, making it very clear that the Gunners are now targeting elite-level players.

Arsenal signing Guler would be questionable

Ranking as one of the highest valued players in the world by CIES, Guler is a talent that most clubs would be honoured to have.

The issue is that, as it stands, the last thing Arsenal need is a player of his attacking midfield profile.

With Max Dowman, Ethan Nwaneri, Martin Odegaard and Eberechi Eze, do Arsenal really need Arda Guler?

There’s competition for the starting spot even without the injured Max Dowman and Ethan Nwaneri, who is on loan at Marseille.

Adding Guler, who has a market value of £112m, would be more of the same for Arsenal, who would be spending big in midfield, while it’s the wide areas that desperately need assistance.

Alternatively, interest in Guler could signal that one of Arsenal’s number 10s is on their way out, which, at present, is most likely to be Martin Odegaard.

Even the idea of Arteta offloading his captain to sign Guler is farcical, but stranger things have happened in the summer transfer window.
