Arsenal’s transfer business this summer is filled with risk as they try to find the right options to take them to the next level.

One of the main causes for concern has surrounded the centre-forward role, which has been a problem for some time.

Over the past few windows, Arsenal have been linked with strikers, but have failed to get a deal over the line.

Andrea Berta looks set to break that trend by making a move to sign Viktor Gyokeres this summer.

Arsenal are in talks to sign Gyokeres, with those discussions ramping up towards a possible conclusion in the coming week.

Naturally, there are concerns from some fans as to how well he can translate goals from Portugal to the Premier League.

There is one other signing who could help unlock him though, with Arsenal working hard to get the deal done.

Noni Madueke could help Arsenal unlock Viktor Gyokeres transfer deal

One of the concerns surrounding Gyokeres and his move to Arsenal has been the number of goals he scored from the penalty spot.

The Swedish international scored 19 goals from penalties across the past season, which is a worry as they aren’t easy situations to replicate.

Arsenal had one of the lowest penalty tallies last season, receiving just two for the whole Premier League campaign.

Fortunately for Gyokeres and his brilliant record from the spot, Arsenal’s pursuit of Noni Madueke could help open up more of those opportunities.

The winger is being viewed as an option who can play on both flanks, capable of improving the side with plenty of quality in depth.

When looking at the statistics, it’s clear to see why, as Madueke ranks in the 99th percentile for progressive carries and the 96th percentile for touches in the opposition penalty area – according to FBRef data.

Those ways of driving into the penalty area could help increase the chances of receiving a penalty, as Arsenal were previously sucked into playing in a “horseshoe” shape, playing the ball around the edges of the box.

By having a more direct attacking threat, who is willing to disrupt defences by bursting into the box, the dynamics of the team could shift, which will only help a striker like Gyokeres.

Arsenal are looking to let shots fly with transfer strategy

While Madueke could be someone who can carry the ball forward, the addition of Gyokeres could change the shot-taking for Arsenal.

The Gunners know all about his scoring statistics, but the Swedish international is also known for his striking.

Gyokeres ranks in the 99th percentile for shots per 90 and shot-creating actions, which have to be taken with a pinch of salt due to how it could translate from Portugal to England.

However, it’s clear that the 27-year-old is someone who is willing to take the shot on when it is available.

Considering Arsenal haven’t had many players willing to do that, often angling for the perfect chance instead, he could make all the difference.

Instead of slow and ponderous play, the Gunners are looking at ways to free up the front line, making scoring a priority once again.
