Andrea Berta is gearing Arsenal up to make a summer move for Julian Alvarez, and his plans have just been handed a significant boost.

Despite signing Viktor Gyokeres last summer for £63 million, the Gunners are already looking to replace the Swedish striker.

If you’re Andrea Berta and Julian Alvarez is offered to you for £87m, would you sign him?

Too much money or a big bargain?

The Argentine forward is believed to be one of the players at the top of their list as they finally look to sign an elite-level centre forward.

Now, ahead of making their move next summer, Arsenal’s hopes have just been boosted by what Atletico Madrid managed to do on transfer deadline day.

Arsenal given Julian Alvarez transfer boost

Arsenal’s plans to sign Julian Alvarez have just been given a huge boost following the arrival of Ademola Lookman at Atletico Madrid.

Dean Jones suggests that the Nigerian signing at the Wanda Metropolitano could be good news further down the line for Alvarez to Arsenal.

The journalist has confirmed Arsenal’s interest in the former Manchester City attacker and has been told that a move could be on the cards.

“I feel there are rumours that Arsenal were looking at Alvarez, and I’m told it’s true. I’m told they genuinely are interested in that and have made initial explorations around it,” Jones told Ranks FC.

“So when I saw this deal (Lookman to Atletico), my check straight away was, hang on, is Alvarez going on deadline day to Arsenal?

Is it wild to think that Arsenal should sell Viktor Gyokeres after one season?

“Are they going to do something ridiculous? Are we actually going to get a twist? And obviously that hasn’t happened, and I was told straight away, no, nothing in this window of that significance, but for the end of the season, let’s see.”

Berta brought Alvarez to Atletico back in 2024, paying a fee of £81m, and now, he could sign him again at the Emirates Stadium.

Last summer, Berta actually targeted Alvarez before moving elsewhere, and now he could return for the 26-year-old very soon.

Viktor Gyokeres struggled against Chelsea

Gyokeres proved against Chelsea why the Gunners are already looking to upgrade him, as he struggled to make an impact.

Fortunately, Arsenal didn’t need a goal, but Gyokeres never looked like scoring anyway, managing just 10 touches all game.

The striker also managed just one attempt at goal and completed just one pass across the 69 minutes he spent on the pitch. Therefore, next summer, the signing of a player like Alvarez will be crucial.
