Arsenal are facing stiff competition from Premier League rivals in their pursuit of Benjamin Sesko Arsenal Insider understands.

Viktor Gyokeres has emerged as Arsenal’s preferred target in the centre forward position, however, a move for Sesko has not been ruled out and is still very much being considered.

David Ornstein believes Arsenal have reservations over Sesko but Mikel Arteta is said to be a big admirer of the Leipzig striker and he has continued to impress in Germany this season.

Sesko has a release clause of £68m and it appears that has alerted clubs around the Premier League as the race heats up for the Slovenian international.

Arsenal face Premier League competition for Benjamin Sesko

Arsenal have been desperate for a striker this season and their lack of a natural number nine has been a major reason behind their trophyless campaign.

The Gunners made contact with Sesko back in the January transfer window but held off from making an official bid for the striker.

TBR Football’s transfer expert Graeme Bailey has told Arsenal Insider that they can no longer expect a free run at the striker this summer as a host of rivals weigh up a move.

Bailey stated: “Arsenal aside, there are a number of clubs who have done work on Sesko, and know a lot about him.

“Chelsea, Tottenham, Aston Villa, Newcastle, Man United but also Liverpool. There is arguably not a striker on the market this summer with bigger potential than him.

“His upside is huge, but is ready to do it now? That is the question most Premier League clubs are asking themselves.

“It is hard to imagine Sesko not moving to England this summer, but predicting which club at the moment is tough.”

Arsenal could benefit from signing two strikers this summer

Of course, the Gunners do not have a bottomless transfer budget this summer and have to comply with PSR rules, however, Andrea Berta could make the smart decision to sign two strikers.

If Arsenal can sell the likes of Oleksandr Zinchenko and Nuno Tavares, as well as Raheem Sterling returning to Chelsea, there may be scope to bolster the squad with more attacking options.

Sesko could join Gyokeres at the Emirates Stadium to leave Arteta with different options whilst competing on all four trophy fronts next campaign.

It would also leave Kai Havertz available to roam behind the striker – a position he enjoyed a lot of success in this season.

Whether two forwards are possible alongside a winger that Arteta craves remains to be seen but it is set up to be an intriguing summer in North London and one where it feels like anything can happen.
