Anthony Gordon has one key quality that Mikel Arteta is desperately lacking in Arsenal squad

A new name has now emerged as Arsenal’s search for attacking reinforcements endures.

Mikel Arteta is known to want to bolster his Arsenal front line before the transfer window shuts on Friday night.

A number of new potential targets have become available for late deals. Raheem Sterling is available to Arsenal, as Chelsea have deemed the England international to be surplus to requirements.

Arsenal are eyeing up Kingsley Coman too, with the Frenchman ready to quit Bayern Munich. However, neither of these players suit the age profile that Arteta tends to prefer.

Arsenal have been linked with Anthony Gordon now though, and the 23-year-old Newcastle United star would certainly be more in keeping with the kind of player that the Gunners have prioritised in recent windows.

Gordon would represent an extremely exciting arrival at the Emirates Stadium and would solve one major issue that has been hindering Arteta’s squad.

Anthony Gordon would give Arsenal pace

Arsenal have a lot of quality within their attacking options.

Bukayo Saka is a game-changer and the club’s most reliable attacker, Martin Odegaard brings a great deal of creativity, and Leandro Trossard is Arsenal’s best finisher

Meanwhile, Gabriel Jesus offers flair, and Kai Havertz add physicality to the mix. However, only Gabriel Martinelli offers true, blistering pace.

Arsenal have been criticised for lacking pace, and on top of that Martinelli is out of form at the moment, and struggling to justify his place in the team.

Gordon would bring a great deal more pace to North London, and that is an extremely dangerous weapon for a team to have at its disposal.

With the 4-cap England international available to Arteta, Arsenal would find it easier to stretch opposition defences and tire them out.

Can Arsenal sign Anthony Gordon?

However, the North London club will struggle to prise the forward away from St James’ Park, as the Magpies are now trying to tie him down to a new deal.

There is a chance that this rumour has emerged as a result of the player’s representatives trying to gain leverage in their negotiations with the Tyneside outfit.

If there is some real fact to this story though, then Arsenal need to go all out in pursuit of his signature on Transfer Deadline Day.

He would add an exciting new dimension to Arteta’s squad, and offers the scope to improve and develop further over the coming years too, which cannot be said for the likes of Sterling or Coman.
