Even Mikel Arteta admitted that Arsenal needed a striker to bolster depth in attack but, the club’s hierarchy were unable to deliver, putting pressure on the summer transfer window.

Arsenal interested in summer transfer for Hugo Larsson
Undoubtedly, all eyes will be on whether Arsenal can sign a forward in the summer however, it’s not the only position that the Gunners will be addressing.
Martin Zubimendi is poised to become an Arsenal player after the 2024/25 calendar, with there also speculation regarding Joan Garcia’s transfer links.
Aside from the goalkeeper and the midfielder, Arteta is plotting a move for another talent, as reported by German outlet BILD.
The report names Arsenal as one of the clubs to be ‘knocking’ on the door of Eintracht Frankfurt midfielder Hugo Larsson.
Tottenham and Liverpool are also ‘watching’ the 20-year-old, who has admirers all over Europe due to his rise in Germany.
While Larsson’s next destination remains unclear, BILD state that one part of the transfer interest in the Sweden international is ‘already clear’, which is the asking price Frankfurt would demand.
Frankfurt, who are currently third in the Bundesliga, will be ‘willing to talk’ for a price in the region of €50m (£41m), which is understood to be the minimum requirement to lure the youngster away.
Larsson is the perfect profile to replace Jorginho
Arsenal fans will appreciate transfer links as it’s clear how short the Gunners are on squad depth but, some will ponder why Arteta is already eyeing two midfielders.
Last summer, Arsenal signed Mikel Merino and the year prior, secured a record transfer for Declan Rice, with the door set to be open for at least two more faces to arrive.
As well as Zubimendi, Larsson could make the move to change the look of Arteta’s midfield, which is needed as Thomas Partey and Jorginho are expected to leave.
Arsenal are not expected to renew Partey’s contract, while it’s been reported that Jorginho is free to sign an agreement with Flamengo to venture to Brazil.
While Zubimendi is the defensive cog needed to replace Partey, Larsson could certainly fit the bill to fill the void left by Jorginho.
Football Talent Scout Jacek Kulig described the Arsenal target as a ‘box-to-box midfielder with good playmaking skills’, outlining several of his other strengths.
- Can play in various positions and roles in midfield if needed
- Likes to play short passes
- Intelligent player with good positional sense who finds the space well between the lines
- Good ability at first touch/high speed in one-two combinations with his teammates
- Extremely difficult to knock off the ball thanks to his strength, ability to shield the ball, and technique
- Above-average footwork and dribbling skills in tight spaces
The above traits are all traceable in Jorginho’s game, with the early assessment of the 20-year-old suggesting that he could be the perfect heir to the Italian maestro in Arteta’s squad.
