Arsenal have just landed a huge boost in the transfer window as Mikel Arteta can now sign a £60m target for 50% of his club’s asking price but a June 30 deadline looms.
The imminent end of the 2023/24 financial year is forcing some Premier League sides to eye a speedy sale. Profit and sustainability rules (PSR) saw Everton docked a total of eight points after two breaches, while Nottingham Forest drew a four-point deduction after their breach.
Possible penalties for PSR breaches may wreak havoc on the 2024/25 Premier League table, as well. Multiple clubs are at risk of exceeding the limit of £105m for allowable losses over a three-season period. Now, PSR may also help Arsenal sign a £60m transfer target for £30m.

Arsenal are primed to move for Amadou Onana with Everton seeking a quick transfer
Reports by The Sun now note that Everton are still desperate for a quick sale as Dan Friedkin faces waiting several weeks to complete a takeover. Farhad Moshiri has agreed to enter into a period of exclusively with the AS Roma owner to sell his majority shareholding in the club.
The wait for Friedkin’s takeover, however, will force Everton to raise funds before June 30 to avoid a third PSR breach. Arsenal could come to their rescue with sporting director Edu now readying a bid for Amadou Onana with Arteta interested in the Everton midfielder’s transfer.

Arsenal are primed to move for Onana as his transfer could fetch Everton £30m in their race to avoid breaching PSR again. The 22-year-old stood out to the Gunners last season with his efforts from the base of Sean Dyche’s midfield. But Onana has the skill for a box-to-box role.
Arsenal held reservations about Amadou Onana whilst Everton demanded £60m
Onana has shown Arsenal first-hand what he can offer as an anchor, too. Darren Bent hailed the 22-year-old in February 2023 after an ‘outstanding’ performance against the Gunners to help secure a 1-0 win. Onana also offered two goals in 30 Premier League games in 23/24.

But Dean Jones noted in May that Arsenal held reservations about signing Onana as Everton were demanding £60m for his transfer. The Gunners have scouted the Belgian for months as a long-term target. But the Toffees’ price tag was emerging as a sticking point for Arsenal.
Everton now cutting their asking price by 50% and accepting £30m for Onana’s transfer has seemingly brought Arsenal to the table, though. But he is currently in Germany representing Belgium at Euro 2024, which may complicate the chances of securing a transfer by June 30.
Arsenal’s winners and losers at Euro 2024
In this week’s episode of the Arsenal Insider Podcast, Will Jones and Rahul Lakhani debated the first few days of action at the European Championship. With Arsenal players such as Kai Havertz and Kieran Tierney experiencing mixed starts to the tournament, the pair assessed which Gunners were the winners and losers from the opening group stage ties at Euro 2024.
There was also some talk about transfers based on the Euros, with Arsenal-linked Amadou Onana’s display for Belgium discussed. While Leandro Trossard’s poor performance for the Red Devils was also analysed and Bukayo Saka’s sensational England showing was lauded.
