Arsenal are looking for another goalkeeper, even after securing Neto, too. On top that, there could be further departures and unexpected opportunities for the Gunners to explore in the last hours of this summer window,
However, it was nearly the case that the Brazilian would have been absent from the club’s base of operations on today of all days.
Edu changed travel plans to work on Arsenal deals
The former midfielder had planned to travel for the recent Champions League draw, but ultimately had a change of heart.
As reported by journalist Jordan Davies on X: “Edu had planned on being in Monaco for the Champions League draw last night but made a late call to stay in London ahead of Deadline Day as Arsenal look to get some late business over the line – a goalkeeper being one of them.”
Arteta and the rest of the Arsenal hierarchy will be grateful that Edu did opt stick around.
Communication is key on Transfer Deadline Day, and it is vital that all channels of communication can run smoothly within the club. Having Edu present in person reduces the risk of potential communication breakdowns between the club’s key figures.
Edu misses out on Arsenal’s Champions League draw
Had Edu have travelled to Monaco, he would have witnessed the Gunners being drawn against eight European opponents in this season’s Champions League draw.
A league phase is being introduced to the elite continental competition, replacing the old group stage format.
Arsenal will take on eight different teams, four at home and four away, over the course of this initial league stage.
Arteta’s side will go toe-to-toe with PSG, Shakhtar Donetsk, Dinamo Zagreb, and Monaco at the Emirates Stadium, and will hit the road to take on Inter Milan, Atalanta, Sporting, and Girona.
Whilst it would have been an exciting event for Edu to attend, he ultimately made the correct decision in choosing to remain in North London.
