Arsenal announce permanent sale of Nuno Tavares to Lazio

Arsenal have officially confirmed the sale of Nuno Tavares to Lazio in a deal worth £6.7m after the Portuguese star completed a successful loan spell with the Italian club.

In a statement on Arsenal’s official website, the club have thanked the defender for his contribution by stating: “Everyone at Arsenal would like to thank Nuno for his contribution to the club and wish him all the best for the future.”

Tavares earned a Portugal call-up back in November and has impressed many with his form in Serie A this season.

He provided nine assists in his 30 appearances in all competitions before a series of muscular injuries disrupted the second half of his campaign.

Arsenal could instantly profit from Nuno Tavares sell-on clause

As per journalist Simon Collings in The Standard, Arsenal could be set to instantly profit from Tavares as they hold a 25% sell-on clause in the deal.

The report claims that Lazio are considering cashing in on Tavares whilst his value is high after enhancing his reputation throughout Europe.

PSG’s Champions League winner Nuno Mendes is a big fan of Tavares after describing the former Gunners defender as ‘top quality’.

Should Lazio complete a sale it would be a nice boost to Berta’s transfer kitty this summer and can be put towards ensuring that Mikel Arteta has the tools required for a trophy next season.
