Arsenal’s transfer interest in Nico Williams is no surprise at this point, with the winger showing all the attributes that could help the Gunners.
Mikel Arteta has shown long-standing interest in the winger, with the need for a more clinical edge in their forward departments from open play.
Throw injuries into the mix and it has only fast-forwarded the need for Arsenal to make a transfer approach for Nico Williams.
The Athletic Bilbao star has a release clause in his deal around the £50million mark, which could make a deal affordable and easy to trigger.
There are, however, issues standing in the way of Arsenal if they wish to add Nico Williams to the side this January.

David Ornstein shares Nico Williams to Arsenal transfer update
With a release clause in the deal for Williams, Arsenal could simply trigger it to get a deal over the line in quick fashion.
It isn’t quite that simple though, as David Ornstein explained in the latest video on the Athletic FC YouTube channel.
The journalist stated that Arteta “loves” Williams and has long-term admiration for the 22-year-old, who wanted a move in January.
Ornstein does state there is a good chance a move doesn’t go through though, with four factors impacting proceedings.
The release clause is one of those, due to the fact that it fluctuates with inflation but it also has to be paid immediately up front.
Another issue is the salary, one described as a “very good” contract that would have to rise further if he were to leave.
Interested clubs also provide an obstacle, with rivals Chelsea and Barcelona also in the mix for the youngster’s signature.
Then there’s the player himself, with Ornstein claiming that Williams isn’t currently pushing for a transfer, though he suggests that may change in the summer.
That all complicates things at a time when Arsenal could do with a swift deal to help bolster their ranks for the rest of the season.

Arsenal must stay patient to avoid transfer mistakes
Many Arsenal fans may be agitating for a few moves in the January transfer window, given the difficulty of the season so far.
Injuries have blighted some players and the form of others hasn’t always been the most inspiring at the important times.
While some may argue that doing nothing may hurt the club, making a mistake through fear of being inactive could be worse.
Mikel Arteta is very specific with the type of players he wants for his system, those who will fit exactly what he needs.
By going out and signing the wrong player, it could add further stress to the PSR outlook, while also bringing in a player on a contract that keeps them at the club.
Staying patient to sign the right target, like Williams in the summer, would be better than landing the wrong player.
