Arsenal were unable to sign a striker in the January transfer window, although it appears they’ve already started to make plans ahead of the summer.
The Gunners were linked with a plethora of names but were ultimately unsuccessful in their pursuits of any of the reported targets.
There were a multitude of reasons for Arsenal’s inactivity, with the main one being the Emirates hierarchy’s unwillingness to scupper their future plans.
Mathues Cunha was linked with Arsenal throughout the winter, and reports have now emerged suggesting that it’s a deal that the club could revisit in the summer.

Arsenal discover summer target Matheus Cunha’s release clause
Signing for Wolves in January 2023, Cunha has developed into the Old Gold’s talisman in the last 18 months.
It took the Brazilian half a season to acclimatise to the Premier League, but since then he’s gone from strength to strength, netting 14 goals in all competitions last season and managing eleven thus far this campaign.
This form sparked January interest from Arsenal, who were looking to bolster their forward line.
Arsenal made contact with Wolves about Cunha, although the West Midlanders were ultimately not willing to sanction the departure of their best player whilst embroiled in a relegation battle.
Cunha instead signed a new four-and-a-half year contract last weekend to put an end to speculation about his future.

However, according to the Daily Mail, Arsenal will explore the possibility of signing Cunha in the summer.
The publication also report that Cunha’s new contract included a release clause worth £62 million, which will come into play in June.
No clubs will be prohibited from activating this clause, and thus Arsenal could secure a deal for the 25-year-old with little complication.
The Gunners are expected to face competition from the likes of Chelsea, Tottenham, Aston Villa and Nottingham Forest for Cunha’s signature.
Would Matheus Cunha be a good signing for Arsenal?
The Daily Mail’s report indicates that Arsenal want to sign one versatile attacker in the summer, and then allocate significant resources to a specialist striker.
Cunha would fit into the former category, with his range of attributes meaning he’s well suited to playing as a false nine, winger or advanced midfielder.
Arsenal fans were unimpressed with Cunha when he played against Mikel Arteta’s team last month, although that performance represented a rare off-day for the Brazil international.
| Cunha’s Premier League Statistics 2024/25 | |
| Stat | Cunha |
| Appearances | 23 |
| Goals | 11 |
| Assists | 4 |
| Shots per 90 | 3.41 |
| Expected Goals per 90 | 0.25 |
| Touches in opposition box per 90 | 4.52 |
The Wolves star’s greatest attribute is his powerful ball carrying, which is a useful way of progressing the ball into forward areas.
If Arsenal can harness this skill and elicit even greater goal output from Cunha, then he’d certainly be a player worth investing in for £62 million.
