Arsenal fans have a lot to say about Benjamin Sesko after latest transfer update, “He’s still raw…”

Arsenal are set to intensify their pursuit of RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Sesko, with the North London club initiating concrete talks over a potential deal.

It’s been widely reported that either Sesko or Viktor Gyokeres will end up at Arsenal this summer, with Andrea Berta and Mikel Arteta narrowing down their striker shortlist to these two players.

While the deal is far from being completed, it appears the Gunners have decided that the Slovenian is their man.

Fabrizio Romano revealed on Thursday evening that Arsenal have commenced concrete negotiations with both Sesko’s representatives and Leipzig ahead of a prospective transfer.

The number nine is almost certain to leave the German club this summer, and Arsenal are ready to pounce, with Arteta being a long-time admirer of the player.

Arsenal fans react to Andrea Berta’s Benjamin Sesko decision

Sesko endured something of a down season in a poor Leipzig side in 2024/25, although he still managed to find the back of the net 21 times across all competitions.

Reports emerged on Wednesday indicating that Leipzig are demanding £92 million for Sesko, although it seems unlikely that Arsenal would go anywhere near this price.

In reality, a deal should be settled for much less, perhaps closer to the £70 million mark.

Unsurprisingly, Arsenal fans were somewhat divided by Romano’s latest report on Sesko, with many taking to social media to express their views.

One fan wrote on X: “You will love Benjamin Sesko if: You love a CF who is an absolute pace demon, makes incessant runs that challenge the last line, repeated sprints and is a very intelligent mover in box situations.”

Another added: “Šeško. 21. 6’5”. Lots to like. Is he ready? Do Arsenal have the time to bed in a new forward? Has to hit the ground running. Big pressure on any new #9 next season.”

One supporter posted: “Benjamin Sesko would give Arsenal incredible transitional threat and box presence; few can take the ball at such speed when running through on goal, and at 6’5 there’s a player waiting to get on the end of Bukayo Saka’s in swingers. But, his game needs refining. He’s still raw.”

Another claimed that Arteta has no excuses next season as the Spaniard is looking increasingly likely to be given his two main targets in Sesko and Martin Zubimendi: “For me I’ve always said let Arteta get all his first choices so he doesn’t have a leg to stand on if it doesn’t go his way next season. We know he loved Zubimendi and now Sesko too. Get him the winger he wants and it’s time to deliver.”

Meanwhile, another provided a suggestion as to how to use the 21-year-old and Kai Havertz in the same team: “Sesko & Havertz upfront in a good ol’ fashioned 4-4-2, with our wide midfielders spamming crosses into the box.”

Is Benjamin Sesko the right man for Arsenal?

Sesko was left out of RB Leipzig’s post-season tour squad this week, suggesting he is almost certainly on his way out of the German club.

Given Arsenal have been by far the most prominently linked club to the Slovenia international, it feels like a matter of when, not if, he arrives in N5.

Whether opting for him over the likes of Gyokeres, Ollie Watkins or Hugo Ekitike is the right decision remains to be seen.

Possessing frightening physical attributes, with his size and pace likely to cause defenders issues, there are still concerns around the player.

Managing just 2.5 shots and accumulating 0.38 expected goals per 90 minutes, there is little to suggest that he’s ready to immediately make an impact for a team at the top level.

These numbers also don’t point to a player who is likely to score a high volume of goals, particularly if they take a hit in a more challenging league.

Sesko is an interesting profile, but far from a nailed-on success.
