Arsenal are still being named in association with Nico Williams.

Transfer rumours are bound to be rife as the summer window approaches its climax.

Arsenal are running out of time to conduct any remaining transfer business that they have planned.

Mikel Merino was unveiled by Arsenal yesterday, confirming his arrival from Real Sociedad. The Spanish midfielder has now joined Italian defender Riccardo Calafiori as a new arrival at the Emirates Stadium this summer.

However, Mikel Arteta is yet to address the attacking deficiencies in his squad this summer. Ian Wright has told Arsenal to sign a forward before the window closes.

Given that Eddie Nketiah is due to join Crystal Palace, the North London club are about to see their strikeforce depleted even further.

There is a strong argument that the Gunners need to add to their frontline, with depth on the flanks required.

Fabrizio Romano provides Arsenal update on Nico Williams

The Athletic Bilbao star would certainly represent a statement signing for Arteta, and would take the Spanish coach’s squad to the next level.

Williams has been called a dream signing for Arsenal. However, transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has now indicated that the Gunners won’t be able to prise the winger away from the La Liga outfit.

As quoted by GiveMeSport, the journalist said: “I don’t think Nico will be on the move. I saw many reports this week on Arsenal and Nico Williams, but it’s not realistic at all from what I’m hearing.”

It would seem that the 22-year-old is happy where he is. Although Williams has a release clause that Arsenal are aware of and could trigger, it would likely prove impossible to agree personal terms with the attacker.

Arsenal fans discuss move for Nico Williams

Many Arsenal fans would love to see Williams at the Emirates Stadium, though accept that it would be tricky to get a deal over the line.

Some feel that Arteta should have acted earlier in the window, to truly test the player’s resolve to stay put. Others feel that there would be no harm in still pushing for the transfer at this late stage.

In any case, the message is clear – Arsenal ought to leave no stone unturned in their quest to sign Williams.

One supporter said: “Arteta just do it get me Nico Williams.”

Another stated: “Surely there are indicators that he might agree and join, otherwise we will not risk it and cling to the idea of signing him until the last day.”

One claimed: “I’d pay more than we should for him considering we made good profit this summer.”

One insisted Arsenal should: “Test the waters and see what happens.”
