Arsenal fans think Andrea Berta has just made a mistake in the transfer window, ‘what are we doing’

Arsenal fans are concerned about one thing Andrea Berta has just done in the summer transfer window.

It’s been a rather faultless summer for Arsenal’s new sporting director, who has welcomed seven new players so far.

That number could rise, as Piero Hincapie is in talks with Arsenal over a move from Bayer Leverkusen to bolster Mikel Arteta’s defence.

The Gunners’ interest in Hincapie came in reaction to the news that Jakub Kiwior is expected to leave before the end of the week, with FC Porto pushing hard to sign the centre-back.

Arsenal fans can’t believe Jakub Kiwior’s sale price

The Poland international is set to join Porto on an initial loan that includes an obligation to buy.

Arsenal are set to earn £21m for Kiwior next summer after his initial loan at Porto.

Though it’s well-known that Kiwior wanted to leave Arsenal in search of regular football, fans are not happy with the price that the defender is leaving for.

“40m at least. What are we doing here!” One angered fan said.

Plenty of others agreed, as Arsenal supporters flooded to X to share their thoughts on what Kiwior’s price should’ve been.

“In this market, the €45m minimum but we need to rebuild our selling rep.”

“£35- £40 million, looks like we will get nowhere near that fee.”

“£45m easy. But we have to start somewhere, and our previous ineptitude for selling has set us back.”

One fan referenced another deal that has happened this summer in the defensive market, as Liverpool sold Jarell Quansah for £35m, having only played 488 Premier League minutes last season.

“If Quansah can go for €40m then Kiwior should be 35m+”

Another branded the sale as ‘atrocious’, “Atrocious fee for a Champions League level defender. Why are we so bad at selling?”

“€25m is just embarrassing. How much did we pay for him?”

Arsenal signed Kiwior for £20m in January 2023, barely making any profit on the player who has since proved his worth in the Premier League and Champions League, making 68 appearances for the Gunners.

“We bought him for £20m. That’s a bad sale for me,” a frustrated fan said, as another insisted that the fee doesn’t reflect the Pole’s quality.

“This fee just doesn’t reflect the value of the player. I’m sorry. We’ve transformed him into a solid CB/LB and excellent forward passing abilities. This feels like we’re just getting what we paid for him, having done all the development work.”

What is Kiwior’s market value?

It’s understandable why fans are unhappy with the player’s sale price, as other clubs in the Premier League seem to shift players for incredibly inflated prices.

What is interesting, however, is that the £21m fee Arsenal will get for the Pole is similar to what his current market value is said to be.

Transfermarkt data points to Kiwior’s market value being around the €28m mark, which equates to £24m.

Having seen how the player performed against the likes of Real Madrid and Premier League opposition last term, fans believe the actual figure should be much higher, but with the need to sell paramount and the player wanting to leave, his exit is understandable.
