Arsenal fans told to ‘keep an eye’ on striker in January who’s scored just once in 2024

Arsenal should be on the market for reinforcements in the January transfer window.

The Gunners are already six points behind Premier League leaders Liverpool despite playing a game more than Arne Slot’s side.

To make things worse, Arsenal have lost Bukayo Saka to an injury – the Englishman is likely to be out at least until February. That is a massive blow.

Arsenal fans have been praying for reinforcements in the winter window, and journalist Ben Jacobs has named a player the Gunners could target.

‘Keep an eye’ on Evan Ferguson to Arsenal in January

Evan Ferguson has been on Arsenal’s radar for a long time.

The Ireland international became a household name when he first burst onto the scene at Brighton. He was absolutely unbelievable for them.

However, the 20-year-old has had a very difficult 12 months. He has managed to score just one goal all year for Brighton, which is a very underwhelming record.

Despite that, everyone knows that he is a massive talent, and after reports claimed that Brighton are ready to loan out Ferguson, Ben Jacobs has thrown Arsenal’s name into the hat.

The journalist has urged Arsenal fans to ‘keep an eye’ on Ferguson once the transfer window opens in January.

He told GiveMeSport: “I would keep an eye on Evan Ferguson – a player that, when he was playing regularly for Brighton sort of 18 months or so ago, was very much on Arsenal’s radar.

“But of course, at that point, everyone was speaking like he would have a £80million to £100million price tag. Now I think suitors are waiting to see whether Brighton are prepared to loan or sell Evan Ferguson.

“I think a loan is probably more likely than a permanent sale.”

Premier League rules could stop Arsenal from signing Evan Ferguson on loan

Ferguson on loan would be a very risky signing.

The last thing Arsenal need is another striker who is not prolific – Ferguson’s tally of one goal in 2024 makes it difficult to rely on him during a title race.

However, if Mikel Arteta really wants Ferguson, Arsenal fans should trust their manager. But, a loan transfer in January is almost impossible.

That’s because Premier League rules state that no team can sign more than two players on loan from a rival club in the same season.

Arsenal already have Neto and Raheem Sterling on loan. Unless one of those deals is cancelled, a permanent transfer will be the only way Arsenal can land Ferguson next month.

We just can’t see that happening.
