Arsenal have bolstered their defensive options with the signing of Cristhian Mosquera from Valencia.

Arsenal confirmed the signing of Mosquera on a long-term contract following a £15m deal from the Spanish outfit.

Mosquera is set to join Mikel Arteta’s squad for the upcoming tour to Asia after having taken part in Spain’s European U21 Championship campaign.

There is real excitement about what the defender can bring to Arsenal in the long-term and fans will love what he has said in his first interview with his new club.

Cristhian Mosquera’s first words as an Arsenal player

Mosquera will provide competition and cover for William Saliba and Gabriel Magalhaes at the heart of Arsenal’s defence.

However, the Spanish defender is not just at Arsenal to make the numbers up and believes he will have a huge impact on the progression of the side under Arteta.

Speaking to Arsenal’s official website, Mosquera stated:

“It means a lot to me. There’s been a lot of hard work behind all of this.

“It’s an opportunity that came up and I couldn’t let it pass me by. I’m joining a historic, massive club. When you arrive here with your family, you really feel the greatness of this place.”

“It’s true my career has moved faster than expected and I’ve had to mature fast. Coming here is a chance to keep learning and improving. I’ll be working with great players and a top-class coaching staff, so that will help me develop personally.

“I’m a player with a lot of energy. I’m young, so I still have plenty to give. I’m fully motivated and excited. Above all, I want to improve, which will create competition within the squad. I’m really happy.”

Arsenal fans now wait for news on Viktor Gyokeres

Whilst Arsenal have been efficient with their transfer business so far this window, the main problem of their squad is still to be addressed.

Andrea Berta’s task was very clear this summer – he had to bring in a world-class striker. Viktor Gyokeres is the man Arsenal have their sights set on but negotiations are proving difficult.

Gyokeres was seen moving furniture at his home in Portugal and supporters have taken that as a sign that a deal is close.

His agents have been in London all week thrashing out a deal but as of yet, there has been no definitive breakthrough to finally end the speculation over his future.

Gyokeres can score all types of goals and fans are convinced that he is the missing piece of the jigsaw to finally land that elusive Premier League crown.
