Mikel Arteta and sporting director Andrea Berta are showing no signs of panicking this summer.
Arsenal’s transfer window has got off to a slow start, with the only incoming movement being in the goalkeeper department.
Free agent Illan Meslier is set to join the club, but fans are far more interested in how they strengthen the attack and the midfield.
🤔 PICK ONE: Would you rather Arsenal signed Bradley Barcola or Morgan Rogers this summer?
The Premier League champions have already walked away from deals for Sandro Tonali and Mateus Fernandes, allowing both to move to Tottenham despite previous interest.
Tonali in particular had wanted to join Arsenal, but the Gunners were put off by the finances involved in the deal.
Now, Arsenal have passed on another European midfielder who would have loved a move to the Emirates.
Arsenal-linked midfielder Morten Hjulmand is joining Atletico Madrid
Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that Sporting CP captain Morten Hjulmand is set to complete a €40million move to Atletico Madrid.
Arsenal had been linked with Hjulmand earlier in the summer, who grew up a passionate, lifelong supporter of the Gunners.
The Danish international idolised Invincibles captain Patrick Vieira, and even has an Arsenal tattoo permanently inked on his left arm.
However, the club chose not to pursue the 27-year-old and instead have their sights locked higher up the food chain.
Rather than spending €40million on a squad option like Hjulmand, the club are determined to sign Newcastle’s Bruno Guimaraes.
Arteta views the Brazilian as the perfect midfielder to partner or rotate with Declan Rice, and would undoubtedly improve the starting XI.
Bruno Guimaraes posted this video about Arsenal in 2022. Do you still want to sign him?
He won’t come cheap, though, as Newcastle maintain he is not for sale. But Guimaraes has informed the Magpies of his desire to move to the Emirates.
Should a move not materialise, Arsenal are keeping a close eye on alternative options, including Lille’s Ayyoub Bouaddi, who is impressing with Morocco at the World Cup.
Bournemouth’s Alex Scott also remains firmly on the radar, though again, the Cherries are adamant he is not for sale.
