Arsenal are backing Bruno Guimaraes to become the perfect midfield partner for Declan Rice next season as they continue to work on a deal for the Brazilian.

Arsenal have already seen a £55 million bid for Guimaraes rejected, but they are expected to return with an improved offer very soon.

The Gunners have been looking to add to Mikel Arteta’s midfield options, and the Brazilian appears to be one of their top targets.

Over the coming weeks, the North London club will continue work on a deal to sign the 28-year-old, who could be the perfect addition.

Arsenal think Bruno Guimaraes would perfectly complement Declan Rice

Arsenal believe that Bruno Guimaraes would perfectly complement Declan Rice, even better than their previous midfield target, Sandro Tonali.

Arsenal considered a move for Tonali back in January; however, the Gunners could now move for his Newcastle teammate instead.

Guimaraes would offer more in possession compared to Tonali, which is probably what this Arsenal team needs more than another warrior like the Italian.

Speaking on The Athletic’s podcast, Ornstein said: “Arsenal, a lot of people you speak to around the club actually feel that, despite previously looking at players like Tonali for this summer, that maybe Bruno Guimaraes is a better fit for what they want.

“He would complement Declan Rice, perhaps in a way that maybe some feel Tonali wouldn’t. So you understand the logic behind it.”

Arsenal are preparing an £80m offer for Guimaraes, and it will be interesting to see how the Tyneside club react to receiving such a large sum of money.

Why Bruno Guimaraes is the perfect Arsenal signing

The Gunners struggled to have control of the midfield at times last season, especially in the latter stages of the season when Martin Zubimendi looked well off the pace.

Rice and Zubimendi both played an incredible amount of football last term, so adding another top midfielder to the squad will help both players significantly.

Also, signing a top passer like Guimaraes will really help Arsenal to create more chances from open play, with the Brazilian being one of the best in the Premier League.

He ranks in the 84th percentile for both forward passes completed and progressive passes completed against other midfielders in Europe.
