Arsenal are not backing down after their first offer for Bruno Guimaraes was turned down by Newcastle United.

Andrea Berta is one of the best sporting directors in the business, and he knows how to get deals over the line more than most others.

Arsenal’s first offer for Guimaraes was in the region of £55 million, but that was rejected out of hand.

Now, a second offer is in the works, and this one is significantly higher.

Arsenal are preparing an £80m offer for Bruno Guimaraes

Bruno Guimaraes seems to be high on Arsenal’s list of targets.

The Brazilian is a fantastic midfielder, and there is no doubt in our minds that he would take the Gunners’ midfield to a whole new level.

£55 million was never really going to be enough to convince Newcastle to sell their captain, and Arsenal probably knew that.

That is why Berta informed Guimaraes’ camp that he will table another bid to sign him, and a few details about the same have now emerged.

TeamTalk have revealed that Arsenal’s next offer will be in the region of £80 million.

The report claims that the Premier League champions have been in extensive conversations with Guimaraes’ camp about a move.

The feeling they’ve got from those talks is deep confidence that a deal can be done if they can convince Newcastle.

Guimaraes is about to enter the final two years of his contract this summer. It remains to be seen if that will help Arsenal in transfer talks.

Arsenal could sign Bruno Guimaraes for less than £80m

£80 million is a lot of money.

If Arsenal sign anyone for that fee, that player would become the second-most expensive signing in the club’s entire history.

However, if reports are to be believed, Guimaraes has a release clause worth £60 million because Newcastle failed to qualify for the Champions League.

However, release clauses must usually be paid in one shot, meaning Arsenal cannot spread the payments over the coming years.

That may well be why they want to strike a deal with Newcastle instead.
