Arsenal are said to be interested in signing Bruno Guimaraes from Newcastle United this summer.
Andrea Berta is keen to sign a new midfielder in the coming weeks, and the Gunners have been linked with several big names.
Sandro Tonali has been rumoured to be of interest to Arsenal for a while now, but his Newcastle United teammate, Guimaraes, may have leapfrogged him in the wish list.
That shouldn’t be too big a surprise, as Arsenal were interested in Guimaraes before he even joined Newcastle in 2022.
🤔 Which midfield target should Andrea Berta prioritise at Arsenal this summer?
Why Bruno Guimaraes joined Newcastle United over Arsenal in 2022
Bruno Guimaraes was always destined to play in a big league.
Arsenal had him on their radar when he was at Atletico Paranaense, and that interest continued when he moved to Lyon in France.
After two very impressive years there, it became clear that Guimaraes was available, and Arsenal were heavily linked with a move to sign him.
However, Newcastle ended up winning the race for his signature in the end, and he has been a terrific player for them over the years.
In March of that year, Guimaraes sat down for an interview with Sky Sports, where he revealed the reason why he chose the Magpies.
When asked about Arsenal’s interest, he said: “I did speak to some other clubs. But the only concrete offer came in from Newcastle, and I really wanted to come here.
“I’ve always wanted to play in the Premier League, and on top of that, it was the start of a new sporting project for the club.”

Arsenal could finally sign Bruno Guimaraes
Guimaraes to Arsenal has been a long time in the making, and it could finally happen this summer.
The Daily Mail have revealed that Newcastle are bracing themselves for an offer from the Gunners, who have already spoken to people involved with the Brazilian.
Guimaraes is fantastic with and without the ball, and he has years of top-level Premier League experience as well.
That makes him the perfect fit for Mikel Arteta’s side, and for the right price, we think he could prove to be the signing of the summer.
Whether Newcastle will entertain any bids, however, remains to be seen.
