Mikel Arteta will be hoping to bolster his Arsenal squad in the upcoming January transfer window.

The Gunners have not had a perfect start to this Premier League campaign, and currently trail table-toppers Liverpool by nine points.

Arsenal were able to return to form against Nottingham Forest on Saturday, though. Martin Odegaard inspired Arteta’s side to victory, and Arsenal certainly benefitted from the recent international break as the time off allowed the Norwegian playmaker and Bukayo Saka to return to full fitness.

However, if the Gunners are to go through the rest of the season in the kind of form they will need to produce in order to stand any chance of being crowned champions, then Arteta will need greater strength in depth to call upon.

Arsenal and Chelsea in Alexander Isak transfer race

Arsenal have been told to sign a striker. There is certainly a strong argument that bringing a reliable goalscorer to the Emirates Stadium ought to be the North London club’s top priority.

Kai Havertz is currently the first choice pick to lead the line, and certainly contributes positively in numerous ways, but he is not the most prolific of forwards. Meanwhile, Gabriel Jesus has been unable to deliver the kind of end product that Arsenal need.

As a result, as reported by TeamTalk, the Gunners are eyeing up a move for Alexander Isak. However, they will now face competition from Chelsea for the Swedish star’s signature.

Newcastle United may be willing to part with Isak, but it is noted that a “monster” offer of £115 million will be required to get negotiations started.

Arsenal have been interested in Isak for some time, and it is easy to see why Arteta is keen on the forward. The Magpies’ target man boasts pace, physicality, excellent technical ability, and clinical finishing. However, it is hard to imagine that he will be within the Gunners’ financial reach this winter.

Two things Arsenal need to win the Premier League title

A striker does need to be at the top of the Gunners’ January shopping list. Arsenal are in the market for an attacker, and Arteta will need to add goals to his group in order to keep this season’s Premier League title dream alive.

Isak would be the perfected addition to the Spaniard’s ranks. If there is any possibility for a deal to be done, then the club must explore that potential.

However, in order to win the league this season, the Gunners will also need luck. Arsenal endured an injury crisis recently, and a repeat of such a disaster would surely spell the end of their title ambitions, no matter what business they are able to get done in the transfer market.
