Arsenal star now told he’s better off joining West Ham than staying at Emirates

Arsenal star Aaron Ramsdale lost his starting spot in goal this season, and there is plenty of speculation over his future.

Arsenal need to sell players if they want to sign more as a result of their financial fair play issues, and given his value as an England International, the goalkeeper is someone who could potentially fetch a large transfer fee, whilst he is also not a starter.

Mikel Arteta is seemingly keen on keeping Ramsdale in January, but this stance could change in the summer as having both the 25-year-old and David Raya in the squad at the same time is doing neither keeper any favours.

Pundit Stan Collymore has now suggested that Ramsdale should join West Ham as a long-term replacement for former Arsenal goalkeeper Lukasz Fabianski.

Speaking to CaughtOffside, the former Liverpool striker claimed that Ramsdale would benefit from a move across London, where he could be the number-one option for years to come.

“I wonder if West Ham might fancy him,” Collymore stated.

“They’ve got Alphonse Areola and Lukasz Fabianski as their two senior keepers but both are into their 30’s with the latter close to turning 40, so it seems a change in that position is coming sooner rather than later.

“Could Ramsdale be the man for David Moyes? – I think so, and I also think that’s one club that could offer him exactly what he’s looking for.

“The Hammers are a big enough club that their players are considered for international duties, they have had recent success in Europe, and by the manager’s own admission, are now aiming to establish themselves as a Champions League side — that seems like the perfect project for a player like Ramsdale.”

Ramsdale joining West Ham makes a lot of sense

Ramsdale leaving Arsenal would frustrate a lot of fans who still believe he is the better option of Mikel Arteta’s two goalkeepers, and he received a warm reception at the Emirates as he came in and performed well in his side’s defeat to Liverpool on Sunday.

Arsenal would look for a hefty fee to consider selling Ramsdale in the summer, and if West Ham qualify for European football, they may be able to afford a major transfer for him.

Ramsdale would be well received at West Ham, and he could start thriving again, whilst Arsenal would be able to reinvest that fee elsewhere.

It does feel like selling him to a London rival could backfire, but if there really is no way back for him at Arsenal, then keeping a valuable asset as an unused substitute would benefit neither the club nor the player.
