Arsenal have made a rapid start to Deadline Day, with one target already arriving at the club.

Mikel Arteta and Edu are in for a busy end to the summer transfer window, with several signings hoped to arrive in North London.

Despite calls for the Gunners to sign a forward, so far, the news spans as far as the goalkeeping situation.

Arsenal have agreed to sign Neto on loan from Bournemouth as a result of Aaron Ramsdale’s imminent transfer to Southampton.

Neto has arrived at Arsenal ahead of Deadline Day loan move

Reporting on all of the Deadline Day action at Arsenal with Sky Sports News, reporter Gary Cotterill shared an update on Neto’s transfer.

Standing outside the Sobha Realty Training Centre, Cotterill reported that the Brazilian shot-stopper had become the first player to be welcomed to the training ground on Deadline Day.

Speaking on Sky Sports News, the journalist said:

“One player who has already been welcomed at Arsenal is Neto. He was welcomed an hour and a half ago.”

The 35-year-old looks set to make North London his home for the season, with Arsenal expected to back away from primary target Joan Garcia, due to the player’s £25m release clause.

Neto is seen as merely a stop-gap to tide Arsenal’s options between the sticks for the campaign ahead, with Ramsdale’s transfer soon to be announced.

Signing Neto is a smart move

Paying £25m for a second-choice goalkeeper was not on Edu and Arteta’s agenda this Deadline Day, making the last-gasp swoop for Neto understandable.

Now that the Cherries have recruited Chelsea shot-stopper Kepa Arrizabalaga, the 35-year-old’s role has taken a backseat, with a transfer to Arsenal coming at the right time for the Brazilian.

Not only will Edu and Arteta save money and solve the imminent goalkeeping shortage, but will recruit a player with Premier League experience.
