Bayern Munich are now ‘working’ to sign player who would fit Arsenal ‘perfectly’

Arsenal have been linked with a move for Galatasaray defender Sacha Boey in recent months, but Bayern Munich have now made a move for him.

The 23-year-old right-back is highly rated in Turkey, and has impressed both domestically and in the Champions League.

Boey is strong defensively and on the ball, and has scored four goals and assisted four times in 83 appearances for the Turkish giants.

Arsenal are in need of an extra full-back, given that Ben White has been carrying an injury, Takehiro Tomiyasu is away at the Asia Cup and Jurrien Timber is still absent with injury. However, it appears that one of their targets may no longer be available as Boey could move to Bayern.

Bayern Munich make offer for Arsenal target Sacha Boey

Fabrizio Romano has now revealed that Bayern Munich are “actively working” to sign the Frenchman in this final week of the transfer window, and it later emerged that they have had a bid rejected.

“Told the only club negotiating for Sacha Boey is currently Bayern. Boey wants to join Bayern,” he posted on X.

“Talks between Galatasaray and Bayern are still ongoing in Istanbul tonight.

“Gala rejected €15m plus add-ons initial bid as they insist on asking price of €30/35m package.”

Arsenal do need a fullback in this window for extra depth and rotational quality, and Boey would have been a fine addition.

Bacary Sagna has previously claimed that he would fit Mikel Arteta’s side “perfectly,” and he would have been a strong long-term option to have in the squad.

However, Arsenal’s financial fair play issues means that the finances involved in Bayern’s deal for Boey would be very difficult to match, and even though extra depth is necessary, it seems that he would get more gametime at Bayern given their desperation for a full-back.

Arsenal have also been linked with Fenerbahce defender Ferdi Kadioglu, but it seems unlikely that they will now sign a defender in this window to boost the squad for the rest of the season.

It remains to be seen what kind of defender Arsenal will target in the summer. Jorrel Hato from Ajax has been linked, as a player who can play both in the centre and on the left.

The lack of cover for White is an issue now, but with Jurrien Timber set to return, perhaps Arsenal see the pair, and Tomiyasu, as able to cover in that position.

With this in mind, a January deal for Boey was always unlikely regardless of the financial situation, as his lack of versatility may have made him an unappealing backup option despite his ability.
