Defender says £55m player Arsenal want to sign is so good it’s genuinely ‘frightening’

Arsenal are still looking to add to their squad with one final signing this summer, despite already spending big on the likes of Viktor Gyokeres and Noni Madueke.

The Gunners have spent almost £200 million in this transfer window, strengthening across the pitch as Andrea Berta looks to provide Mikel Arteta with the tools to compete for the Premier League title once again.

Martin Zubimendi arrived for £55 million from Real Sociedad as the North Londoners’ first marquee addition of the summer, before Gyokeres, Madueke and three others followed the Spaniard through the door.

While Arsenal are happy with the business they’ve conducted thus far, they still feel more firepower is required in their attack to ensure they can compete on multiple fronts.

Bright Osayi-Samuel describes Eberechi Eze as ‘frightening’

At the top of Arsenal’s wishlist is Eberechi Eze, who may now be available for around £55 million after his release clause expired at the end of July.

The England international scored 14 goals and provided 12 assists across all competitions for Crystal Palace last season.

This level of productivity would be welcome in what has become something of a stale attack, and the Gunners view the player as a genuine option for the left wing and in midfield.

Capable of producing something magical, Eze is an excellent dribbler who is effective at getting his shot off under pressure.

Potentially ‘the X-Factor’ Arsenal need, Eze’s former teammate, Bright Osayi-Samuel, has described the 27-year-old as ‘frightening’.

“During that time I was playing with Eberechi Eze, who is someone that I’ve played with since I was in school,” the defender told Sun Sport.

“So, you know, for me and him, it was just vibes. We took games as vibes, and you could see that it actually was starting to get us wins as well.

“I mean, he was amazing. For him, I always knew from the minute I played with him at QPR, that he would probably go far.

“I still believe he can go far because, for me, he’s probably in the top three players that I’ve ever played with, because he’s literally so talented.

“It’s different, because you can see it in games, but what I’ve seen him do to a lot of players in training is frightening.”

Arsenal need more players who frighten defenders like Eberechi Eze

When Eze gets going, he is a joy to watch.

The ex-QPR man glides past players with ease, using his outstanding close control and elusive body movements to drive his team up the pitch.

Arsenal have become predictable in attack, possessing few players who are effective at beating a man and pulling a set defence out of position.

Only Bukayo Saka completed more than two dribbles per 90 minutes last season in the Gunners’ squad, and this meant Arteta’s side struggled to break down low blocks.

Eze completes 2.33 take-ons per game, and this would make him the prolific dribbler at the Emirates.

Arsenal may need to sell to sign Eze, but if they are able to, then Berta must do so.
