Edu Gaspar has done a phenomenal job at Arsenal over the years.

Mikel Arteta gets a lot of credit for transforming the Gunners on and off the pitch and rightly so. But, that wouldn’t have been possible without Edu.

The Brazilian returned to the club in 2019 to become their technical director. He was then promoted and was named as Arsenal’s sporting director in November 2022.

Edu has made several excellent signings at Arsenal in recent years, and his network in the Brazilian market allows the club to have an edge over most other teams in the world.

Now, the former Brazil international is said to be driving Arsenal’s move to sign one hugely talented player from his country.

Edu Gaspar is pushing Arsenal’s move to sign Vitor Reis

Arsenal always have an eye on the Brazilian market thanks to Edu.

The Gunners sporting director’s connections in his home country helped Arsenal sign Gabriel Martinelli for just £6 million – he is worth over 10 times that fee now.

The South American market is filled with incredibly talented young players, and it looks like Edu really wants to dive back in and sign one of his countrymen.

Vitor Reis has been linked with a move to Arsenal, and the teenager has been attracting interest from several other top clubs in the world as well.

Now, Ben Jacobs has revealed that Arsenal’s interest is being driven by Edu, who is said to have made it a point to land him in 2025.

The journalist told GiveMeSport: “Edu, in particular, has been on Reis for quite some time, and is driving this one.

“Of course, Mikel Arteta is involved, but we’re not yet at the stage where, like the club, from Arsenal’s perspective, has pitched or the manager needs to get terribly involved.

“But Edu, in particular, has made a point of leading this chase, if you like, and Real are there as well and Chelsea just wants all of the top talents from South America.”

Vitor Reis’ style of play

Reis is one of the best talents Palmeiras has produced in recent years,

The defender is still just 18 years old, but he already plays for the first team and is attracting interest from several huge clubs like Arsenal and Real Madrid.

Football Talent Scout describes Reis as a ‘complete, dominant, and elegant centre-back’ who ‘exhibits impressive strength on his feet and is remarkably efficient in physical duels, even against stronger opponents’.

It has also been added that Reis is comfortable playing in a ‘high-risk, high-reward playstyle’ and is ‘concentrated, committed, and positively aggressive in duels’.

The outlet further claims that Reis is very similar to Cristian Romero of Tottenham Hotspur and Ruben Dias of Manchester City.
