Emi Martinez tells £24m Arsenal player with ‘great future’ that he needs to leave immediately

Former Arsenal goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez has certainly enjoyed his fair share of success since leaving the club for Aston Villa in 2020.

Mikel Arteta won his first and only trophy at Arsenal with Martinez between the sticks, he was the club’s cup goalkeeper when they won the FA Cup in the months prior to his exit.

And since then, although Martinez is yet to win any silverware with Unai Emery at Villa, he has won some excellent international honours with Argentina.

Martinez now has a World Cup medal and has also won the Copa America twice with his country, an excellent feat.

Meanwhile, Arteta has eventually found the right number one for his team: David Raya.

Of course, Raya’s arrival last summer left Aaron Ramsdale out in the cold, even if he had just been named in the PFA Team of the Year for the 2022/23 season.

Ramsdale is now expected to leave Arsenal, with the club preferring a permanent exit over a loan move in the coming weeks.

Emi Martinez tells Aaron Ramsdale that he’s too good to be a substitute at Arsenal

Speaking in an interview with The Telegraph, Martinez shared Arsenal’s sentiments that now was the right time for Ramsdale to leave Arsenal.

Martinez recognised that the England goalkeeper is in a different position than he was in north London, but still thought leaving for a side like Wolves was a good idea.

Martinez said: “I think it’s a different position [to the one I was in]. He signed for £24m, he was the number one for Arsenal, I never had a chance like that.

“When you play every game in the Premier League and then you drop to the bench, with the quality that Aaron has, I think he should find a place to play where he feels loved.

“I heard he might go to Wolves, which I think could be a good move for him. He is a player that England needs in their goalkeeping area. He has a great future.”

Several clubs are interested in Ramsdale right now, who remains a top quality goalkeeper.

Just because Arteta doesn’t envision Ramsdale as a starter at the Emirates Stadium, that doesn’t necessarily mean that the 26-year-old is finished at the top level.

And in truth, some many feel, with all respect to Wolves, that the Arsenal keeper should be aiming a little higher.
