Arsenal’s January transfer window is set to be personified by their chase for a new forward option before the market closes.

Mikel Arteta is looking to capitalise on opportunities for business in a tough transfer window, with several key areas needing to be addressed.

The forward ranks are the most important for Arsenal, with both flanks and the centre-forward positions of interest.

It remains to be seen whether the Gunners will be able to add a quality option, but one target has made their stance clear.

Leroy Sane to Arsenal transfer latest

Arsenal have been linked with a transfer for Leroy Sane, as the star enters the final six months of his contract at Bayern Munich.

With his dwindling contract situation, the Gunners could agree a pre-contract for the former Manchester City winger before a potential switch in January.

However, they may not be alone in the race as Florian Plettenberg reports that Galatasaray are also showing interest in Sane.

The reporter rules out a move to Galatasaray though, claiming that the 28-year-old is determined to secure a new contract at Bayern.

That may rule Arsenal out of proceedings this window too, though there is a slight boost as Plettenberg claims: “The Bayern bosses, however, are still hesitant,” over a new deal.

It remains uncertain how the winger’s future may develop over the coming days and weeks, though for now he seems to be focused on staying in Bavaria.

What could Leroy Sane bring to Arsenal?

If Arsenal do manage to coax a U-turn out of Sane on his transfer situation, then the winger could add plenty of quality.

He has shown an ability to score and assist on either flank, while he prepares to enter the peak years of his career.

Former Bayern Munich boss Thomas Tuchel underlined his quality when he said in early 2024: “ou always try to have a bond with the sensitive and exceptional players. We want Leroy to be a team player.”

He also revealed how the winger played through pain, stating: “I know that he has been training with pain for seven or eight weeks – and yet he still makes himself available for the team. He’s played with pain that was almost unbearable. He deserves the highest praise for that.”

It shows the commitment a player like Sane could bring to the cause at Arsenal, who need to get a title win over the line.
