Arsenal are among a number of clubs across Europe who are interested in signing Nico Williams.

The Athletic Bilbao attacker was one of the best players at Euro 2024. He even scored in the final to help Spain win the competition.

Williams was heavily linked with Arsenal last summer. The Gunners really wanted him, but he decided to stay at Bilbao in the end.

The January transfer window has officially opened and Arsenal are interested in Williams again. Sadly, history is set to repeat itself.

Arsenal target Nico Williams makes January transfer decision

Arsenal suffered a huge blow when it was confirmed that Bukayo Saka will be out for months due to injury.

The Englishman is the Gunners’ best player. He had directly contributed to 22 goals in 24 games this season before his injury and is one of the biggest reasons why Mikel Arteta’s side can still dream of catching Liverpool.

The North Londoners are in the market to reinforce their attack, and Williams is on their wish list.

Reports have claimed that Arsenal have the money to trigger Williams’ near-£50 million release clause in this window, which is great news.

However, GiveMeSport have now shared a disappointing update.

It has been revealed that Williams has decided that he wants to stay at Athletic Bilbao until the end of the season. He is not interested in a mid-season transfer.

That is a big blow for Arsenal, who now have to find an alternative target to bring in before the window shuts next month.

How much will Bryan Mbeumo cost Arsenal in January?

Brentford star Bryan Mbeumo is also a target for Arsenal.

Williams would definitely be the more eye-catching signing, but the Cameroon international would be a great option as well.

Mbeumo has already been compared to Saka, and after seeing him score against Arsenal in the Premier League on New Year’s Day, we think he should be seriously considered.

However, GMS claim in the same report that Brentford have increased Mbeumo’s price tag to £50 million, which seems like a lot of money.

But, desperate times call for desperate measures, and we think Arsenal are in such a situation now following Saka’s injury.
