Arsenal are still locked in talks with Bayer Leverkusen over a potential deal for defender Piero Hincapie.
Mikel Arteta sees Hincapie as the ‘ideal’ signing for his Arsenal squad given his versatility in being able to play centre back and left back.
Any move for Hincapie would allow Jakub Kiwior to make his move to Porto but the Gunners are yet to agree a deal with the German outfit.
Arsenal are looking at a loan-to-buy deal but Leverkusen want closer to Hincapie’s €60m release clause. Fabrizio Romano has shared one detail that he can ‘guarantee’ about the potential transfer.

Fabrizio Romano ‘guarantees’ that Piero Hincapie only wants to join Arsenal
Speaking on his official YouTube channel, Romano has stated that Hincapie only wants to join the Gunners this summer amid interest from a number of teams.
David Ornstein claims Arsenal have wanted Hincapie for a while and are hoping they can finally get their man in the final few days of the window.
Romano explained: “Arsenal fans don’t forget about Piero Hincapie, I’m told conversations are continuing between Arsenal and Bayer Leverkusen and with the player that contract is agreed. He wants to go to Arsenal.
“I can guarantee that the player wants to go to Arsenal and that Arsenal want Hincapie. Conversations are taking place.”
Arsenal would have incredible defensive depth should they sign the Ecuador international and Arteta knows that having a solid foundation will be key to a successful season.
The Gunners had the best defensive record in the Premier League the last two seasons and will now be hoping they have added enough firepower at the other end of the pitch to claim the title.
Florian Wirtz recognised Piero Hincapie’s importance at Bayer Leverkusen
Even if a deal can be completed for Hincapie, it is unlikely the 23-year-old will feature in Arsenal’s next Premier League fixture at Anfield.
Liverpool have already brought in a player from Leverkusen this summer in the form of Florian Wirtz and the German playmaker hailed Hincapie for his role in the German club winning the Bundesliga in 2024.

As per El Futbolero, Wirtz shared a social media image of himself alongside Hincapie with the simple caption of: “An important one.”
Hincapie has built a reputation as a ball-playing defender with real aggression and tenacity in the duels – a perfect blend for Arteta’s side.
