Arsenal are getting closer to discovering the future of Rodrygo, which could be make or break for their pursuit of the Real Madrid star.

The Gunners have been on the lookout for another left-wing option this summer, with Mikel Arteta needing more firepower in the forward line.

Plenty of rumours have been flying around, as Gabriel Martinelli has been linked with an Arsenal exit to make room, while Leandro Trossard is gaining transfer interest from around the world.

If either are to leave, then Arsenal will look at other options, with Rodrygo among those who have been heavily linked.

Andrea Berta has been made to wait for the Brazilian star, but he is set to get his transfer answer very soon.

Arsenal set to learn Rodrygo’s fate after Club World Cup with new timeline revealed

While Arsenal’s interest in Rodrygo is well-known at this point, the future of the star is anything but at this stage.

There have been doubts surrounding the 24-year-old and where he may fit at Real Madrid in the future, with the summer providing him a chance to prove himself to new boss Xabi Alonso.

With a lack of game time so far, and only a maximum of two games left for him at the Club World Cup, a decision on him is set to follow soon.

Fabrizio Romano revealed as much when he said on his YouTube channel: “Rodrygo, obviously his situation is quite strange to see a player like Rodrygo on the bench for four consecutive times sounds strange.

“We know about the interest at Arsenal, they consider Rodrygo a fantastic player, but at the moment it is still early stages, not even a club-to-club negotiation yet.

“We have to wait for next week and the end of the Club World Cup to understand what’s going to happen with Rodrygo.”

That means things may only get underway from the second week of July, meaning Berta faces a race against time to get a deal done.

Mikel Arteta wants new signings in for Arsenal’s pre-season training, and with a period of rest coming up for Rodrygo, it means there is a rush to get things done to meet that request.

It remains to be seen what could happen between the Gunners and Real Madrid, should the move proceed towards a potential agreement.

How Rodrygo has done at the Club World Cup this summer

There was some belief that perhaps this summer would prove that Rodrygo still has a future at Real Madrid and can compete for a place in Xabi Alonso’s team.

So far, though, the Club World Cup has proven anything but that.

The winger has struggled to get many minutes under the new manager, making just three appearances out of the five available.

That includes a start in the opening game, a draw with Al-Hilal, before four starts on the bench in a row.

With just 92 minutes played, no goals and one assist, the message so far is clear.

Whether that changes over the next week or so remains to be seen, as the first focus is winning silverware, before any negotiations over transfers.
