Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that Arsenal do indeed hold an interest in signing Sandro Tonali, despite Newcastle sources dismissing the move.
Earlier on deadline day, reports claimed that Arsenal were in talks for Tonali; however, that is not a deal that will now happen this window.

The North London club have been keen to sign another midfielder given the fact that Mikel Merino is set to miss the rest of the season.
While Newcastle sources shut down talk of Tonali joining Arsenal, there certainly seems to be an interest, with a relationship between the Gunners and the player.
Andrea Berta wants to bring Sandro Tonali to Arsenal
Andrea Berta wants to bring Sandro Tonali to Arsenal, and he already has a relationship with the midfielder’s agent, according to Fabrizio Romano.
Paul Merson would love to see Tonali join Arsenal, but whilst the deal will not happen on deadline day, it is a deal which could be revisited next summer.
Speaking about the situation on YouTube, Romano said: “For Arsenal, yes, this morning, many rumours about Sandro Tonali, many links with Sandro Tonali and the potential move to Arsenal.
“My understanding is that there is nothing today, nothing ongoing between Newcastle and Arsenal. There is an appreciation from Arsenal, for sure.
“Arsenal also have a very good relationship with people close to the player, Italian connection with the director Andrea Berta, but this is a separate story.
“So Arsenal, but it’s not only Arsenal, Juventus, more Premier League clubs, it’s going to be, I think, in the summer an interesting situation to follow with many clubs interested.
What is the maximum fee Arsenal should pay to sign Sandro Tonali?
“But then don’t forget what Newcastle did with Isak last summer. It means that Newcastle decide what they want to do till the very end. So it’s not going to be an easy one.
“But for now, for deadline day, zero per cent, zero conversations and zero chances to see Sandro Tonali leaving Newcastle.”
Earlier on Monday, Mikel Arteta said he wants new Arsenal signings, but at this stage, that now looks unlikely to happen.
