Fabrizio Romano has revealed the information he has been given about the future of Emile Smith Rowe at Arsenal.

Smith Rowe is a homegrown Arsenal talent, but the 23-year-old attacking midfielder has become a fringe player for the North London club.

The Englishman, who is also able to play out wide, has had injury problems, but when fit and available, he has not been used much by Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta.

Well-known and well-respected Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano has claimed that a meeting has been scheduled between Arsenal and Smith Rowe, adding that the Gunners could sell the youngster if they get a decent offer.

What Fabrizio Romano has said about Arsenal midfielder Emile Smith Rowe

Romano told CaughtOffSide about Smith Rowe’s situation: “I’m aware of talk of a meeting being scheduled between Emile Smith Rowe and Arsenal, but my understanding is that nothing has been decided on this yet.”

The transfer expert added: “I think it’s an open situation based on proposals, but at the moment I’m still hearing it’s a quiet situation. Let’s see in the next weeks if clubs join the race.”

Emile Smith Rowe should leave Arsenal this summer

Emile Smith Rowe has fallen down the pecking order at Arsenal, and it is hard to see him re-establish himself in the starting lineup.

Once upon a time, Smith Rowe and Bukayo Saka were the poster boys for Arsenal. While Saka has gone on to become a goal machine and one of the best young players in the world, Smith Rowe has become a fringe player at the Gunners.

The 23-year-old made only three starts in the Premier League this season. In 2022-23, the English playmaker did not make a single start in the league.

Martin Odegaard is the playmaker-in-chief for Arsenal now. The 25-year-old Norway international scored eight goals and gave 10 assists in 35 Premier League games this season.

Saka is one of the first names on the Arsenal teamsheet, and when Gabriel Martinelli has failed to produce for the Gunners, Arteta has used Leandro Trossard in the Brazilian’s place.

There is also speculation that Arsenal are looking to sign Desire Doue from Rennes in the summer transfer window. The 18-year-old, who could cost £35 million, is able to play as an attacking midfielder or out wide.

Smith Rowe will find it even harder next season to get playing time, and it would be best for his career if he left Arsenal in the summer transfer window.
