Fabio Vieira is facing an exit from Arsenal this summer, but one move now looks extremely unlikely for the midfielder.

The Portuguese ace was signed from FC Porto in 2022, hopeful that his quality and potential would translate into performances at the Emirates Stadium.

That hasn’t quite worked out, though, as Fabio Vieira struggled to make his mark at Arsenal in his first two years.

Vieira went back out to Porto on loan, spending the season at his old club in the hopes of regaining some form.

There have been talks of a potential return, though that now seems unlikely after a recent decision.

FC Porto decide against Fabio Vieira’s transfer switch from Arsenal

With Vieira’s loan at Porto coming to an end, there are fresh questions surrounding where his future may lie.

His spell ended with five goals and six assists over 42 appearances for the club, coming with some mixed reviews.

In all, though, O Jogo claims that Porto have decided against making Vieira’s loan permanent, sending him back to Arsenal this summer.

It’s stated that the 25-year-old failed to convince the hierarchy at his old club, who are against making a permanent signing and have also seemingly closed the door on a loan return, too.

While his salary is said to be a problem, even if it is lowered, his failure to make an impression on his return has put them off making another move.

It comes as something of a blow to Arsenal, who will now have to look elsewhere if they are to move Vieira on in the market.

Andrea Berta has a big challenge to secure a move for Fabio Vieira this summer

Andrea Berta is spinning many plates this summer when it comes to deals for Arsenal.

While many are focused on potential incoming players, there are some key outgoings that the Gunners need to consider.

Vieira is among those, as he only has two years remaining on his Arsenal contract, while he seemingly has no place left in the current squad.

The Gunners are almost certain to miss out on making back the £35 million they paid, but Arsenal can make a profit on Vieira due to the amortisation financial rule.

So the challenge for Berta is to negotiate a permanent sale for a small transfer fee that could bank some profit for the club.

It’s unclear which teams could be interested in making such a move, however.
