Forget Viktor Gyokeres, Pep Guardiola has an ‘incredible’ transfer recommendation for Arsenal

Arsenal are lacking in the striker department, with Edu Gaspar and Mikel Arteta failing to sign a number nine in the summer.

Arsenal welcomed five signings to the Emirates before the transfer deadline but none represented a reliable goalscorer.

In fact, Arteta only opted to bolster his attacking options through Raheem Sterling, who was captured on deadline day in a last-gasp loan from Chelsea.

It’s quickly become clear that Sterling is not the figure Arsenal needed in the summer, with the issue of the Gunners’ absence in front of goal dragging on.

Viktor Gyokeres and Alexander Isak are two transfer options for Arsenal

Since Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang was axed, Arsenal’s options in the number nine role have been rather inconclusive.

Gabriel Jesus was acquired from Manchester City however, is far from prolific, with the same narrative following Kai Havertz.

As a result, Arteta’s side has lacked a figure with conviction this term but, such struggles could end if the Spaniard attacks the future transfer windows with that in mind.

Arsenal have been linked to Viktor Gyokeres, who is on fire at Sporting CP where he’s protected with a release clause of £85m.

Having scored 23 goals in only 18 games this season, the Sweden international is set to be in high demand although, he’s not the only striker the Gunners could consider.

Gyokeres’ national team strike partner Alexander Isak is of interest to Arsenal and having just scored against Arteta’s side, the boss might not need to look further than the Premier League to find his goalscoring solution.

Only Cole Palmer and Erling Haaland netted more goals in the English top-flight than Isak last season, telling of what he could offer in N5.

Arteta only has to look at what the 25-year-old has been doing since he joined Newcastle United in 2022 to be convinced to sign him however, a recommendation from a valued source goes a long way.

The Arsenal manager’s former boss Pep Guardiola has previously shared his admiration for Isak, admitting that the forward was actually a former target of Manchester City’s.

“He had the conditions to be an incredible striker with his speed, his finishing,” Guardiola said to Manchester City’s Match Day Live programme in January 2024.

“We started to follow him at Real Sociedad. We were impressed. He was a target. Wow. He is a young player but with these skills, all the clubs around the world take a look.

“It’s not a surprise and he’s adapted really well here in the Premier League. I don’t know him personally, but I admire him a lot.”

Guardiola is certainly a fan of the striker and having worked with some of the best forwards in the game, his opinion should be regarded as fact by Arteta.

It would be a bold move for the Gunners to acquire a Premier League talent as hot as Isak but given Arsenal’s current state, no option should be considered off-limits.
