David Raya’s proposed transfer to Arsenal has now been completed, with his medical scheduled for Thursday.

That’s according to Fabrizio Romano, who has confirmed that the paperwork is complete and the deal is done for the goalkeeper to join Arsenal, who will join from Brentford for a fee totalling around £30m.

His medical will take place on Thursday, indicating that Arsenal will have everything ready to register him in the Premier League squad in time for the visit of Nottingham Forest on Saturday as the season kicks off.

He is set to be unveiled following the completion of his medical, but Arsenal fans can now relax knowing that their fourth summer signing has been confirmed, with Raya following Declan Rice, Jurrien Timber and Kai Havertz through the doors at the Emirates.

Will Raya play against Nottingham Forest?

Despite the transfer being completed in time for the 27-year-old to be in the squad, it seems highly unlikely that Raya will play against Nottingham Forest.

In fact, it would be surprising if he is seen in the Premier League any time soon. Aaron Ramsdale looks set to keep his place as the number-one keeper in league games, with Raya providing seriously strong competition for him.

Barring any injury or serious drop-off in form for Ramsdale in the next few weeks, we can likely expect to see Raya in action for the first time in September, with the Spaniard initially taking the role as cup goalkeeper in the Champions League and Carabao Cup.

From there, he can attempt to oust Ramsdale from his role as Mikel Arteta’s first-choice goalie, and this could help create excellent competition between the two, with both keepers being kept on their toes and fully focused on their performance levels.
