How Arsenal feel after breakthrough over Aaron Ramsdale exit as one club now desperate to sign him

Aaron Ramsdale’s uncertain future at Arsenal now looks set to be resolved in the coming days, with a breakthrough over an exit deal.

Ramsdale lost his starting spot to David Raya last year, and the England International is now keen on an exit in order to play regularly.

Arsenal are also keen on signing a third-choice goalkeeper, with Wigan star Sam Tickle now of interest to Mikel Arteta as a homegrown option.

If Ramsdale is to leave, Espanyol goalkeeper Joan Garcia has agreed personal terms, but his club have maintained a firm stance over any potential move.

A move for Ramsdale looked difficult, and Wolves backed out given his asking price. However, there has now been a breakthrough with another club.

Arsenal optimistic over Aaron Ramsdale Southampton transfer

Fabrizio Romano has now revealed that Arsenal are progressing well in talks with Southampton over a deal for Ramsdale.

“Understand Southampton and Arsenal are advancing well in talks for Aaron Ramsdale deal! Negotiations underway, it could get done soon. All parties optimistic,” he posted on X.

This is a more positive update than anticipated, given that Southampton were previously uncertain over whether they wanted an obligation to buy in any deal.

However, they are now under more pressure to secure Ramsdale’s signature.

Southampton under pressure to sign Aaron Ramsdale

Southampton have admired Ramsdale for a while, but struck a deal to sign Feyenoord goalkeeper Justin Bijlow.

However, the Dutchman failed his medical at the club and the move collapsed.

Southampton are in need of a new goalkeeper as they attempt to fight off relegation, and Ramsdale would be an excellent addition for them.

“Interest is not new, club were still juggling Ramsdale possibility alongside Bijlow. Pressure now applied on themselves after opting out of Bijlow but a deal was considered unlikely under the initial conditions Arsenal commanded. Would require a big concession on at least one side of the negotiations to be done,” Southampton journalist Alfie House revealed.

The breakthrough in talks may mean that Southampton’s desperation to sign a new goalkeeper has meant that they are now willing to offer a fee, or obligation to buy, closer to what Arsenal want for Ramsdale.
