Arsenal’s rebuild under Mikel Arteta has been impressive, but it hasn’t come without backing from the very top in the transfer window.
The Arsenal boss took over in December 2019, hopeful of rescuing a flailing club from mid-table mediocrity, dragging them back to the top.
It took a few years to see where the Mikel Arteta project was going, but eventually, the Gunners kicked into gear.
The Spanish boss had a team that was finally his, playing a style of football that was winning games and getting them competing again.
It took some smart initial deals from Arsenal, along with some Hale End academy talents, before they could enter the era of spending big.
So, with the latest transfer window already concluded, here’s an updated look at how much Arteta has spent on permanent transfers as Arsenal boss.

How much has Mikel Arteta spent at Arsenal
2019/20 season
- £0 spent
Arsenal only made two loan signings in Arteta’s first transfer window, which came in January 2020.
The additions of Pablo Mari and Cedric Soares came through until the end of the season, though they would both later go on to sign permanently.
2020/21 season
- £77.2 million spent
The 2020/21 season was the first chance for the Arsenal owners to back Arteta in the transfer market with some signings.
Thomas Partey, Gabriel Magalhaes, Pablo Mari and Runar Alex Runarsson all joined on permanent deals, while Martin Odegaard had a loan spell that would later be made permanent.

2021/22 season
- £143 million spent
The 2021/22 season was the foundation for much of Arsenal’s recent success, as the likes of Odegaard, Ben White, Aaron Ramsdale and Takehiro Tomiyasu joined the club.
Those four were big additions and personalities within the squad, while there was an attempt to find value with Nuno Tavares, Albert Sambi Lokonga and Auston Trusty.

2022/23 season
- £159 million spent
Arsenal took the biggest leap possible in 2022/23 under Arteta, as he convinced Gabriel Jesus and Oleksandr Zinchenko to join the club from Manchester City.
The pair brought with them plenty of experience when it came to winning the top prizes, and seemingly drove the standards of everyone around them.
Further additions were made, as Leandro Trossard and Jakub Kiwior joined, followed by Fabio Vieira and Jorginho.
Marquinhos and Matt Turner were other attempts at finding value by scouting other markets.

2023/24 season
- £199.3 million spent
With the jump to Premier League title challengers, Arsenal went out and made some statement signings in 2023/24.
The club-record signing of Declan Rice showed their intent, beating some other big clubs to his signature and proving they are among the elite again.
Add into the mix the signings of Kai Havertz, Jurrien Timber and David Raya, on an initial loan before he was made permanent, and it was a successful period for the club.

2024/25 season
- £100.6 million spent
Arsenal made a few signings in the 2024/25 season, landing Raya permanently alongside Riccardo Calafiori and Mikel Merino.
The windows were characterised by the lack of a striker, while Raheem Sterling and Neto joined on loan.

2025/26 season
- £250 million spent
With Andrea Berta taking charge on the transfer front, there was a drastic change in approach, as £250 million was spent on new signings.
Eight additions were made, including Viktor Gyokeres, Eberechi Eze and Martin Zubimendi.

Mikel Arteta’s total transfer spend so far as Arsenal manager
- £929.1 million spent
Arsenal have now spent over £900 million under Arteta, with pressure now on for him to deliver on the trophy front.
