If rumour is true, Ollie Watkins’ transfer to Arsenal is now more likely than ever

Ollie Watkins could be a new transfer solution for Arsenal in the striker department, following a surprise twist.

The Gunners have long been linked with a move for the England international, following a failed bid to land him in January.

While Arsenal have an interest in Ollie Watkins, interest in the experienced Premier League star has cooled recently.

That’s due to Andrea Berta pushing for one of Viktor Gyokeres or Benjamin Sesko in the summer transfer market.

Those plans may have changed for Arsenal, with a surprise development that may change the focus to Ollie Watkins.

Ollie Watkins to Arsenal move may be more likely after Viktor Gyokeres problem

Arsenal have been pushing to sign Viktor Gyokeres this summer, after reports claimed that Benjamin Sesko’s price would be too much.

The Gunners have been accelerating in their plans to land the Swedish international, but there has been a new problem.

Recent reports have claimed that Arsenal’s deal for Gyokeres could collapse, with the club ready to walk away due to the price.

Given Arsenal’s doubts over Sesko’s price, it seems to open up a possible “plan C” for the side over their next striker option.

Watkins seems to be the perfect fit for that, given the previous work done to try and land the forward in the previous window.

Aston Villa may well be open to a sale, even though the 29-year-old is in the peak years of his career and has three years left on his contract.

It’s unclear if Arsenal will be willing to get that move over the line, or if they could look elsewhere in the market.

Ollie Watkins can offer what other Arsenal striker targets cannot

While Arsenal face some risk this summer in whichever striker they pick up, you can argue that there is far less danger in picking up Watkins.

The Aston Villa and England star has Premier League experience, which could make the transition easier for him.

While there are naturally doubts surrounding his age and sell-on value, Arsenal want to win the big trophies now.
