Andrea Berta’s plan to explore one Arsenal target is now under threat because of Liverpool.
Right now, the sporting director’s attention is on the three players set to arrive at Arsenal to complete medicals over the next few days.
Berta has been in talks with Gyokeres while Noni Madueke and Cristhian Mosquera travel to London to complete their transfers to Arsenal.
Arsenal fans are amazed by Berta’s work so far this summer, and the Italian isn’t done there, with other targets set to be explored, including Rodrygo.

Liverpool want to sign Rodrygo
Arsenal have been in contact with Rodrygo over a possible transfer, understanding that the Brazilian wants to talk with Xabi Alonso about his future role at Real Madrid.
The conversation might not be needed, however, as Alonso used Rodrygo sparingly at the Club World Cup, signalling that the 24-year-old is no longer a guaranteed starter at Madrid.
Despite other transfer opportunities taking centre-stage, Arsenal remain interested in Rodrygo, but will have to sell players before considering the winger, who could cost in the region of £70m.
It’s now become apparent that time is not on Arsenal’s side, as another club are interested in Rodrygo.
According to journalist Santi Aouna, Liverpool are ‘expected’ to join the race to sign Rodrygo, who is also wanted by Manchester City.
Aouna reports that Arne Slot ‘appreciates’ the Real Madrid star’s talent ‘a lot’, putting pressure on those at Arsenal to lay out a plan for the attacker if he were to make the move to the Emirates.
Given how Liverpool have been moving this summer, Arsenal should be particularly cautious of the Reds, who are not wasting any time in bolstering their title-winning squad.
Arsenal will be wary of Liverpool’s transfer activity
Rodrygo was described as ‘underrated’ by Jude Bellingham, who admitted that the winger is one of Real Madrid’s most talented players, despite not being the protagonist.
At Arsenal, Rodrygo would certainly earn the protagonist title, but he’d also fit in at Liverpool, who appear to be building a squad of superstars this summer.
The Athletic report that the Premier League champions want long-term Arsenal target Alexander Isak after recruiting strongly early on.
Slot wants to maintain Liverpool’s champion status, signing Florian Wirtz, Milos Kerkez and Jeremie Frimpong to kick the summer off.
There would’ve been many eyes looking over at Anfield with a feeling of concern, but fortunately, Berta has fired Arsenal into action in the market.
Now, the two clubs could race to sign Rodrygo, whose time at Real Madrid is surely nearing its end.
