Lucien Agoume will not be joining Arsenal this summer, as things stand.
The Gunners have woken up in the transfer window this week. Martin Zubimendi, Kepa Arrizabalaga and Christian Norgaard are all set to complete their moves to Arsenal.
To add to that, Arsenal are trying to sign Cristhian Mosquera from Valencia, and personal terms have been agreed with him over a move.
There was also serious interest from Arsenal in Agoume, but that move is unlikely to happen now.
Why Mikel Arteta has decided not to sign Lucien Agoume at Arsenal
Arsenal have had to adapt to changing scenarios in their midfield over the last few months.
The Gunners initially planned to sign Martin Zubimendi and keep hold of Jorginho, but the Italian decided to leave the club and join Flamengo.
Arsenal then tried to extend Thomas Partey’s contract, but an agreement could not be reached. The Ghanaian is set to leave now.
Norgaard will be joining Arsenal as Partey’s replacement, but many fans wanted Agoume to be the one coming to the Emirates.
However, the BBC reveal that despite genuine interest from the Gunners, Arteta decided not to pursue the Sevilla star this summer.
The Arsenal manager chose to sign Norgaard instead because ‘he preferred a Premier League-ready player’ at this point in time.
Agoume, as a result, is no longer an option.
Arsenal should tweak their Lucien Agoume plan instead of abandoning it
Lucien Agoume is a fantastic talent.
Yes, signing Norgaard is the smarter option now as Arsenal look to go all out to win the Premier League title, but that doesn’t mean they should forget about the Sevilla star.
We think Andrea Berta should still sign Agoume and send him out on loan to a club where he can develop further next season.
Arsenal can get Agoume for just £17 million now — that price could shoot up in a year’s time if he has a good loan spell.
At that point, the Gunners can either decide to integrate him into their side or sell him for a profit. It would be a win-win situation either way.
