Arsenal have already started planning for the summer transfer window.
Andrea Berta wants to strengthen three key positions – left-wing, right-back and central midfield – and several names have been linked with a move to the Emirates Stadium.
One of those is West Ham United star Mateus Fernandes, but there is now some bad news for the Gunners.
🤔 Which midfield target should Andrea Berta prioritise at Arsenal this summer?
Arsenal target Mateus Fernandes is likely to join Manchester United
Fernandes has made a fantastic name for himself in England over the last two seasons.
The Portuguese midfielder was very impressive for Southampton, and he has been even better since joining West Ham last year.
Fernandes’ performances have alerted several top clubs in the Premier League and abroad, and he is expected to be on the move once the window opens.
Arsenal like the £80 million-rated Fernandes and view him as a target to bolster their midfield, but their chances of signing him have taken a hit.
The Guardian’s Jacob Steinberg has now revealed that it’s looking like the Hammers’ star will end up at Old Trafford this summer.
He said on the United! United! United! podcast: “There are quite a few clubs in for him.
“The information I had this week was if he were to stay at any club in England, then the place he’d be most likely to go is (Manchester) United.”
👀 TRUE or FALSE: Mikel Arteta should NOT use Myles Lewis-Skelly at left-back again…
Arsenal won’t be disappointed if they miss out on Mateus Fernandes
Fernandes checks a lot of boxes for Arsenal.
He is still only 21, is an incredible talent with huge potential, already has Premier League experience, and is a great option as a backup.
However, that doesn’t mean Arsenal should break the bank on him.
Mikel Arteta already has Myles Lewis-Skelly playing brilliantly in the middle of the park, and he could end up saving Arsenal millions in that role this summer.
So, if Fernandes is available for a reasonable fee, Arsenal should get him. If not, no problem!
