Arsenal’s pursuit of Viktor Gyokeres is well-documented, with the Gunners looking at a potential deal for the striker to bolster their ranks.

The Swedish international has impressed ever since he made the move to Portugal, joining Sporting CP from Championship side Coventry.

That switch has worked wonders, with Viktor Gyokeres constantly finding himself on the scoresheet each week.

He has shown the clinical nature lacking at Arsenal in recent seasons, with Andrea Berta looking to solve that in the market.

While Arsenal are interested in Gyokeres, they aren’t the only ones, as an old foe of Mikel Arteta could haunt him once again.

Antonio Conte wants to sign Viktor Gyokeres at Napoli ahead of Arsenal

Mikel Arteta has had plenty of foes during his time as Arsenal manager, but few caused him problems quite like Antonio Conte did.

The Italian manager took over North London rivals Tottenham and guided them to a Champions League place at the expense of the Gunners.

While it ultimately didn’t work out for Conte, it did set Arsenal back another year and ultimately meant they had to wait for their return in that competition.

Now, many years later, the coach is working his magic in Serie A once again, leading Napoli to glory with the Scudetto.

With that now secure, Conte is looking to haunt Arteta again, as The Mirror reports that the manager wants to bring Gyokeres to the club.

It’s claimed that appeals have been made to the Napoli board to sign the 26-year-old, potentially pouncing on indecision from Arsenal.

The Gunners have been pondering whether to sign Gyokeres or Benjamin Sesko, with no clear verdict on which they will move for yet.

Should Andrea Berta get embroiled in a transfer tug-of-war for Gyokeres, then he may at least have a secret weapon in his favour.

Ben White could be the key to Arsenal signing Viktor Gyokeres

The transfer switch for Gyokeres could end up being a straight shootout between a few clubs, with the striker left to make a decision.

Plenty of different factors are likely to be involved, from wages and fees to style of play and general club fit.

Arsenal may have an advantage in a few of those areas, one of which is the fact that Gyokeres has lived in England before, having played for Brighton, Swansea and Coventry.

Add to that another potential secret weapon, which is the friendship he previously had with Ben White.

The pair both came through the Brighton academy and played plenty of games together before their careers went separate ways.

White could well play a part in convincing Gyokeres to make the move, handing Arsenal a secret weapon over their rivals for his signature.
