Morgan Rogers has given Arsenal fans another reason to believe a transfer is coming.
The Aston Villa midfielder has been strongly linked with Arsenal, with reports indicating that the Gunners are Rogers’ priority destination above all other clubs.
Manchester United, Chelsea, Bayern Munich and PSG have all been credited with interest, but Arsenal are understood to be in pole position should Villa be persuaded to sell.
Now, a social media post has further fuelled the speculation surrounding a switch to north London.
Morgan Rogers to Arsenal – yes or no? Tell us why in one sentence!
Jaydon Gibbs, brother of former Arsenal left-back Kieran Gibbs, posted on Instagram of the two of them celebrating the Premier League title parade.
The third picture in the post shows the pair sitting around a table in a bar with Morgan Rogers.
Rogers commented on the post, referring to Jaydon as ‘my brother’, so they are obviously really close friends.
It is, of course, far from confirmation of anything. But naturally, it is only going to intensify the Arsenal rumours as far as fans are concerned.
Gibbs, who played 230 games for Arsenal, is a former teammate of Mikel Arteta, and will surely be encouraging his mate to move to the Emirates.
Rogers has previously named an Arsenal game as the moment he knew he could compete at the very top level, describing them as some of the best players in the world.
What the Morgan Rogers transfer picture looks like right now
Arsenal remain confident they are in pole position to sign Rogers, despite interest from multiple clubs.
Aston Villa are reluctant to sell, but at around £80million, the right offer could force their hand, and Rogers’ own preference for a move to the Emirates is bound to be a significant factor in how this plays out.
Christian Falk has already confirmed that Bayern Munich, despite Vincent Kompany’s admiration for the player, are unlikely to be able to afford him.
That clears the field further for Arsenal, who have the financial capacity, the project and, it increasingly appears, the personal connections to get this deal done.
The Instagram post may mean nothing. Or it may be exactly the kind of detail that, in two months’ time, seems like it was obvious all along.
