With less than an hour remaining in the transfer window, Arsenal are set to confirm another departure as Khayon Edwards will join Leyton Orient on loan.

The 20-year-old has been sensational for the under-23 side this season, with nine goals and two assists in 14 games across all competitions.

The striker is highly regarded within the Hale End academy, and follows the likes of Mika Biereth and Charles Sagoe Jr in agreeing new loan deals in this January transfer window.

Leyton Orient are 10th in League One, and are 11 points off a playoff spot, and Edwards has the task of helping them reduce this deficit in the second half of this season.

Journalist Jeorge Bird has now confirmed that the youngster is set to move across London for the second half of the season.

“Khayon Edwards’ loan to Leyton Orient has been finalised. He’s set to report to training tomorrow morning at 9am,” he posted on X.

Edwards has been described as “physically gifted” and “technically skilled,” and this loan represents the next step in his development after impressing in the academy.

Edwards scored 23 in 41 games for the under-18 side, and has also scored 14 in 35 for the under-23s.

His loan will allow him to test himself at a senior level, and it is hoped that he will gain regular opportunities at Orient.

Translating his goal output from youth to senior level will be key for Edwards, and his loan departure will also allow another academy prospect to gain more opportunities at Arsenal.

The loaning of several high-potential talents this window is clearly a strategy by Arsenal to increase the values of these players, help them gain regular experience, and make space for more players to gain minutes, and they will be keeping a close eye on Edwards for the rest of the season.
