On top of Alexander Isak interest, Arsenal are still tracking transfer target who said no to Mikel Arteta

Arsenal have been linked with a move for Newcastle United star Alexander Isak recently as Mikel Arteta’s search for a new striker goes on.

Despite Kai Havertz being in scintillating form, there is a concern that Arsenal are in need of another goalscorer in their ranks.

Gabriel Jesus is the second choice striker in Mikel Arteta’s squad, but the Brazilian has been in woeful form in front of goal.

Arsenal fans slammed Jesus after his poor showing against Southampton last time out, and there would be little faith in the former Manchester City man to step up and deliver if Havertz were to be sidelined for any reason.

It makes sense, then, that the Gunners are taking an interest in Alexander Isak

Alexander Isak and Benjamin Sesko on Arsenal striker shortlist

The Swedish striker has been in fine form for Newcastle, and the Magpies will be desperate to retain his services. However, Arsenal have been given hope of signing Isak, as the 25-year-old’s negotiations over a new contract at St James’ Park have stalled.

Arteta is not pinning all of his hopes on being able to seal a deal for the Newcastle man, though.

According to Football.London, the Gunners are still monitoring the progress of Benjamin Sesko

The 21-year-old will be familiar to fans of the North London club. Sesko rejected a move to Arsenal in the recent summer transfer window, preferring instead to remain at RB Leipzig.

Why Sesko said no to Arsenal

This was the right decision for the Slovenian forward to make at that time as he is playing week in, week out for the Bundesliga outfit. Sesko has made a fine start to the new season too, with 6 goals and 3 assists to his name already.

At this stage in his career, the forward needs to be playing as regularly as possible. Had he joined the Gunners ahead of this season, he would likely now be playing second fiddle to Havertz.

Arteta has not been put off by this initial rejection, and Sesko may well find a switch to the Emirates Stadium difficult to turn down for a second time, especially when he reaches the stage where he will feel confident in his ability to come to Arsenal and demand a regular starting berth.
