People within Arsenal think ‘unbelievable’ player should’ve been signed instead of Viktor Gyokeres and Noni Madueke

Arsenal have signed seven players this summer, spending £250 million in the process, although there is still a feeling that Andrea Berta should have taken a different approach to the window.

The Gunners have bolstered across the pitch, strengthening in every position.

Viktor Gyokeres was signed from Sporting CP for £63 million, while Noni Madueke and Eberechi Eze were also acquired to improve the North Londoners’ attacking options.

Meanwhile, Martin Zubimendi was signed for £55 million from Real Sociedad, with Christian Norgaard also brought in to bulk out Arsenal’s midfield.

Kepa Arrizabalaga and Cristhian Mosquera have been added to strengthen the back end of Mikel Arteta’s squad, while Piero Hincapie is also expected to complete a switch to N5 before the end of the window.

People within Arsenal think they should have signed Alexander Isak

Arsenal have undeniably created a squad that has exceptional depth.

The Gunners have a multitude of different options in every department, and should be able to rotate regularly throughout the season.

However, some may argue that Arteta’s squad lacks the top-end talent in certain areas to take them across the finish line and win major silverware.

This belief extends to certain figures within the North London club, according to the Independent.

The publication report that ‘Arsenal sources’ believe that Berta should have tried to sign Alexander Isak, and sacrificed other signings, such as Madueke and Gyokeres, in the process.

“Some Arsenal sources have argued that, rather than signing six different players, they should have just gone bigger with the budget by securing Martin Zubimendi, Eze… and Alexander Isak,” the Independent wrote.

“The rationale is they should have only signed game-changers to elevate the squad, rather than so many alternative options, that mostly deepen it.”

Andrea Berta’s transfer approach is justifiable

While Isak would have been an ‘unbelievable’ addition for Arsenal, allocating a huge proportion of their budget to the Swede would arguably have been a mistake.

Arsenal suffered from an injury crisis last season, and their lack of depth then subsequently derailed their campaign.

With several different options now at Arteta’s disposal, Berta has protected the Gunners from falling off in the scenario that they have to contend with several fitness issues again.

If they’d merely signed Eze, Zubimendi and Isak, they’d have been left without a back-up for Bukayo Saka, while Jorginho and Takehiro Tomiyasu wouldn’t have been replaced.

Berta’s transfer choices are entirely justifiable, and this should be reflected in how the team performs over the course of the season.
