Arsenal could be about to earn millions from a player they sold in the summer of 2025.

One of Andrea Berta’s tasks in the summer transfer windows was to make Arsenal a better selling club.

Even a sporting director of Berta’s calibre knew such a stark improvement wouldn’t happen overnight, with Arsenal’s summer window flagging in the sales department.

Several players departed permanently, one of whom was Nuno Tavares, who, after returning from a loan spell at Lazio, signed a permanent deal.

Now, Tavares is said to be on the move again.

Andrea Berta isn’t one to utilise the January transfer window, is that a good sign for Arsenal?

Arsenal could be about to earn millions from Nuno Tavares

Tavares has earned mixed reviews at Lazio, which is why it’s unsurprising to learn that the Italian club are ready to cash in on the defender.

A report from Corriere dello Sport revealed two updates regarding former Gunners, one being Tavares and the other Matteo Guendouzi.

Guendouzi is set to join Fenerbahce, and Tavares will likely follow him out of Lazio, who are receiving offers for the Portuguese.

Any offer will be of interest to Arsenal, as the Gunners hold a 35% sell-on fee for Tavares, which could unexpectedly land those in N5 millions.

Corriere dello Sport state that the 25-year-old is ‘being offered to everyone’, revealing that Al-Ittihad are one club to make an offer.

Lazio did, however, reject the offer for being too low, aware that Arsenal’s sell-on clause would take a hefty chunk of their profit.

If Lazio sold Tavares for a price as low as £10m, Arsenal would receive £3.5m in return, generating funds from a player who hasn’t represented the club since May 2022.

Lazio’s stance on Tavares has changed so much

Though even a payment in the region of £3.5m would suffice for Tavares, there was a time when Arsenal might’ve envisaged the windfall being a lot higher.

It was only in October 2024 that Lazio’s president valued Tavares at €70m.

Claudio Lotito said at the time, “I won’t sell Tavares, not even for €70 million. We have beaten off strong competition from the big clubs to sign the left-back in the summer.”

Things have changed a lot since then, with Tavares’ future not likely to be at Lazio beyond the January window.

Still, it’s good news for Arsenal, who are set to add to their transfer kitty once a sale goes through.
