Viktor Gyokeres is a player firmly on Andrea Berta’s transfer radar ahead of a decisive summer for Arsenal.

Mikel Arteta wanted a striker in January, but the Arsenal manager’s wishes were not answered.

Now, Berta has a job on his hands to deliver much-needed targets to bolster the squad, with a reliable number nine at the top of the list.

Gyokeres has caught Berta’s eye, but the Gunners’ sporting director isn’t the only one to be charmed by the Sporting CP talisman.

Wolves manager Vitor Pereira comments on Arsenal target Viktor Gyokeres

At the top of Arsenal’s transfer list are Gyokeres and Benjamin Sesko, two players who have impressed over the 2024/25 calendar.

No player in Europe scored more goals than Gyokeres over the season, as the Swede netted 39 times, making Arsenal’s interest understandable.

There have, however, been some reservations over how well suited the 26-year-old would be to the Premier League, given the difference in quality between the Portuguese and English top flights.

From the outside looking in, such reservations are valid, but the opinion is different to those involved in the game.

Speaking to A Bola, Wolves manager Vitor Pereira shared his verdict on Gyokeres, heralding the Arsenal target’s chances of making it in the Premier League.

“Yes, yes, I think he will get there sooner or later, because that is where the best are, and he is one of the best,” Pereira said of Gyokeres in the Premier League.

The Wolves boss went on to highlight the striker’s strengths and weaknesses, giving Arteta some food for thought over the possible signing.

“He is a player who has practically everything. He lacks a bit of aerial play; he could be better, but otherwise, he is a player who attacks space, and a team that tries to press and plays man-to-man with him at the back will have a lot of difficulty.

“He is a player who only has his eyes on the goal, who turns and shoots from any side. So he is very hungry, it seems like he plays hungry for goals. He is a different player.”

It appears that the Gunners don’t need much convincing, given that Arsenal officials have made contact with Gyokeres’ representatives over a possible move.

Gyokeres could finally return to the Premier League

The story of Gyokeres is fascinating, as it was only two seasons ago that the striker was playing in the Championship.

Before signing for Sporting, there was a pathway for the Swede to re-enter the realms of the Premier League after a failed stint at Brighton, as Crystal Palace and Wolves were monitoring his services.

At the time of Sky Sports’ report, Gyokeres’ asking price was as little as £25m, a price that Wolves opted out of paying, which the West Midlands club are surely kicking themselves over.

It remains to be seen if this summer represents the 26-year-old’s transfer to the English top flight, with all eyes on where the free-scoring marksman will find himself at the start of 2025/26.
