Reiss Nelson twist as one Arsenal exit route blocked, Arteta now faced with fresh dilemma

Arsenal could now be back to square one when it comes to sorting out a departure for Reiss Nelson this summer.

It is hard to imagine that Reiss Nelson has much of a future at Arsenal

The winger clearly isn’t a key figure in Mikel Arteta’s plans, as he was only afforded one Premier League start last season.

At this stage in his career, the 24-year-old needs to be playing regular football, and he will not get the game time he requires at the Emirates Stadium.

As such, Arsenal will have been hoping for West Ham United to make a concrete offer for Nelson, given their recent interest.

The Hale End academy graduate would have been an interesting signing for the Hammers, adding pace and attacking intent to their front line. Nelson would have also stood a stronger chance of getting regular minutes for the East London outfit.

However, it now seems that West Ham are looking to go in a different direction.

Arsenal face transfer dilemma as West Ham turn back on Reiss Nelson deal

According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, reporting on X: “West Ham have submitted initial proposal to Leeds United for Crysencio Summerville. Talks took place also on player side, but still not close, considered very expensive. AS Roma have also included Summerville in their list but only in case Soulé deal doesn’t happen.”

With West Ham now focusing their efforts on signing Crysencio Summerville, it would seem that their interest in Nelson has cooled.

This could, in part, be due to the Gunners’ asking price. According to journalist David Ornstein, Arsenal want at least £20 million, plus add-ons, for Nelson.

It could be that the club need to lower their asking price in order to generate more interest in the player, but the Gunners cannot appear weak, or overly desperate to sell, especially with so much of the summer transfer window remaining.

Therefore, now is not the time to panic about not being able to offload Nelson. However, there will need to be concerted effort to attract suitors for him now that West Ham seems to be out of the picture.
